Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Rafael Ortega, C Carlos Perez and 2B Johnny Giavotella are not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels Sunday, May 1. C Geovany Soto will start at catcher and is batting sixth in the lineup. OF Shane Robinson will start in left field and is batting eighth, while SS Cliff Pennington will start at second base and is batting ninth.
Fantasy Tip: Soto has at least one hit in six of his last seven starts and has six RBI during that span. Soto could be used in two-catcher leagues. Owners should avoid using Pennington and Robinson for the time being.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (knee) is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list Sunday, May 1, as he is nearly recovered after a bout of left patellar tendinitis. He might start getting some at-bats in a minor-league rehab assignment sometime next week.
Fantasy Tip: Avoid Nava in AL-only fantasy leagues and DFS play until he can officially return, knock off the rust and prove his health in a full game or two without any setbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Gentry is considered day to day. When healthy he is only worth a look in the deepest of AL-only fantasy play.

Fantasy Tip: Shoemaker has been touched for 13 runs in just 5 1/3 innings in two outings against Texas this season. Remember that, and avoid him in DFS play and most fantasy formats the next time these clubs square off.

Fantasy Tip: Giavotella has hit better of late with four hits, including a homer, in 10 at-bats the last week. He only hit .234 against lefties the previous three years, but he should see some pitches to hit ahead of Mike Trout. He's a decent option if you're looking for a basement flyer against Derek Holland. Ortega is hitting .368 the last seven days, but he hasn't faced a lefty this year. Hold off on him tonight.

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (shoulder, elbow) will travel to Los Angeles to get evaluated by the club Monday, May 2, because he has been experiencing tightness in his throwing shoulder recently.
Fantasy Tip: Skaggs had been scheduled to make a rehab start Monday, but he hasn't thrown off a mound since doing a bullpen session Wednesday, April 27. Owners in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues should continue to stash him on their rosters and should have a better idea of his timetable to return to action following Monday's exam.

Fantasy Tip: Trout is simply doing what fantasy owners expect. He is hitting .438 with four homers and nine RBIs with six runs scored during the impressive nine-game run.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago entered the game tied for sixth in the American League with a .179 opponent batting average, so chalk this one up as just a poor outing. He remains a must-start fantasy option in all formats and a tremendous DFS play.

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs was scratched from a rehab outing earlier this week due to fatigue and has pitched fewer than four innings in each of his appearances. He is recovering from Tommy John surgery and could be worth stashing in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues based on potential, although he appears to be several weeks away from returning.

Texas Rangers OF Delino DeShields Jr. is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 29. OF Ryan Rua draws into the lineup and is batting eighth, and 2B Rougned Odor is leading off against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago Friday.
Fantasy Tip: DeShields owns a .219/.305/.301 slash line to start the season, and he has been hitting ninth more than first of late. His fantasy value is dwindling. Odor receives a modest fantasy boost in the run and stolen base columns setting the table for the Rangers, but it hurts his RBI potential. Rua is a potential flier in daily contests because of his .292/.320/.458 career slash line against southpaws, but you'll still want to keep expectations in check.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar is a low-end option in deep mixed leagues, but he has upside to score plenty of runs leading off for the Angels, and he is capable of flirting with a .300 batting average. He hit .314 in 2015, after all.

Fantasy Tip: With Street on the shelf, Joe Smith projects to handle the ninth inning for the Angels. Smith is an immediate add in all fantasy formats, and Street is a universal stash. Fernando Salas and Mike Morin would be the next closing option should Smith falter.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout hit his fifth home run in a winning effort over the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, April 27. He's hitting .353 in his last 14 games after starting the year 5-for-27. Nine of his 37 career hits against the Royals have been home runs.
Fantasy Tip: He also has four home runs in his last seven games, proving that his slow start is already a thing of the past. If you were considering buying low, that opportunity has already passed. There's a reason he was in consideration once again for the first overall fantasy pick this year.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim RP Huston Street (oblique) is expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique. RP Joe Smith recorded the save in Street's absence Wednesday, April 27.
Fantasy Tip: Smith has been a serviceable fill-in before. Pick him up in most formats and stash Street on the DL.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim do not have any contract extension talks scheduled with OF Kole Calhoun and SP Garrett Richards. "I would be lying to tell you that the thought hasn't crossed my mind," general manager Billy Eppler said. "But we're not at that point. It's just not something I want to talk about while they're playing; while they're trying to perform."
Fantasy Tip: Entering play Wednesday, the 28-year-old Calhoun was batting .264 with two home runs and nine RBI, while the 27-year-old Richards was 1-3 with a 2.35 ERA through his first five starts, with 30 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings. Calhoun should be viewed as an OF3 in mixed seasonal leagues, while Richards is a low-end SP2 or high-end SP3.
