He will miss the Daytona 500 this year. "I'm right now sitting at home, but that's OK," Vickers said. "I've got some great ideas that I'm very excited about. We're working with and talking to several of the sponsors in exploring a lot of options. I'm not going to fill you all in yet, but some options I'm pretty excited about." The first change is an increase in the size of the restrictor plate that will be used in the race. The other rule change is an adjustment on the pop-off valve ion the cooling system that is expected to lower the maximum water temperature in the engines. Under the new system, drivers will be given 43 points for first place, 42 for second and one point less for every following position down to last. The winner will be given three bonus points with one bonus point awarded for leading a lap and one for leading the most laps. Forty three points would be awarded to the race winner and one point less for each ensuing position down to one point for the 43rd-place driver. NASCAR is also thinking of keeping a 12-driver field for the Chase for the Sprint Cup. However, the top-10 drivers following the 26th race of the season would qualify, with the final two spots going to the drivers with the most wins who are not already eligible for the Chase. "He said the sun got into his eyes. Then we got down into (Turn) 1 and I just drove up next to him to show him my displeasure of what went on and he just flat out wrecked us. He wrecked himself. It was pretty stupid," Gordon said. Gordon shoved Burton when the two met on the track after the crash.
