Redskins | Dustin Hopkins going to IR

Tue, 17 Oct 2017 15:10:08 -0700

Washington Redskins PK Dustin Hopkins (hip) is being placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Oct. 17. Free-agent PK Nick Rose (49ers) was signed by the Redskins in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Hopkins is a big loss for the Redskins as he was/is one of the best kickers in the NFL. Fantasy owners shouldn't have a hard time finding a capable replacement on the waiver wire. Some names to consider are Stephen Hauschka, Chandler Catanzaro and Chris Boswell.

Redskins | Chris Thompson chasing history

Tue, 17 Oct 2017 12:57:15 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson is on pace to become the fourth running back ever to rush 100 times and eclipse 1,000 receiving yards in one season. Thompson must average 5.8 carries and 60.0 receiving yards per game.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the 2017 season so far. He has turned into a reliable every-week starter and a household name in PPR leagues, pacing all running backs with 340 receiving yards. Either sell Thompson high or hang on to him and enjoy the ride.

Redskins | Josh Doctson to play bigger role?

Tue, 17 Oct 2017 09:06:13 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson is expected to see more playing time going forward, according to head coach Jay Gruden. "We are going to actively expand (his role), without a doubt. He didn't get as many reps as I would like at the end of the day when you look at the numbers, but it's our job. We have got to get him in there more and expand it," Gruden said.

Fantasy Tip: Doctson has played more than 20 snaps twice in five games, including 19 in Week 6, so there is definitely room for his role to grow. With that said, Chris Thompson has been about the only consistently productive pass-catcher in Washington this season despite being a part-timer at running back. Doctson is definitely worthy of a stash in deeper leagues, but it's fair to wonder how many more snaps he'll see or if he can do more with them than Terrelle Pryor and/or Jamison Crowder have with theirs this season.

Redskins | Dustin Hopkins to miss at least one week

Mon, 16 Oct 2017 15:46:36 -0700

Washington Redskins PK Dustin Hopkins (hip) will miss at least one week because of a partially torn muscle in his hip and is considered week-to-week, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Redskins will sign a new kicker this week, but owners will have several options to choose from if they have Hopkins in their lineup.

Mon, 16 Oct 2017 14:27:47 -0700

Washington Redskins CB Bashaud Breeland (knee) underwent an MRI on the sprained medial collateral ligament he suffered in Week 6. He still has a chance to play against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7.

Redskins | DeAngelo Hall return soon

Mon, 16 Oct 2017 14:17:59 -0700

Washington Redskins S DeAngelo Hall (knee) may be activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list this week or next week, according to head coach Jay Gruden. Gruden said Hall is close to 100 percent but the team wants to make sure he is ready to play.

Redskins | Rob Kelley will take part in practice

Mon, 16 Oct 2017 12:28:43 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Rob Kelley (ankle) will be able to participate in practice this week, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

Fantasy Tip: Kelley has missed the last game because of the injury but appears to have a chance to play in Week 7. He probably would share playing time with Samaje Perine and Chris Thompson if he is active this week but could receive a majority of the carries. Kelley can be a flex option in some deeper leagues.

Redskins | Dustin Hopkins hurting

Mon, 16 Oct 2017 12:22:48 -0700

Washington Redskins PK Dustin Hopkins (hip) is dealing with a right hip rotator muscle sprain. Free-agent kickers are expected to work out for the Redskins this week in light of the injury, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

Fantasy Tip: Hopkins' prospects for Week 7 don't sound promising, so be ready to start another kicker. Some names that might be available to fill in include: Stephen Hauschka, Chandler Catanzaro and Chris Boswell.

Redskins | Jordan Reed held in check in return

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 19:15:52 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed finished with four catches for 37 yards in a 26-24 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Reed has yet to reach 50 receiving yards in a game this season, and Kirk Cousins continues to spread the ball around to several targets. Continue to start Reed when he is healthy, but high-end TE1 production may be too much to expect.

Redskins | Jamison Crowder not a factor

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 19:03:46 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Jamison Crowder finished with three catches on five targets for 15 yards in a 26-24 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Jay Gruden said earlier in the week that he wanted to have Crowder more involved, but it was another lackluster outing from the receiver. With just 121 receiving yards through six games, Crowder needs to be benched until he shows signs of life.

Redskins | Terrelle Pryor quiet in Week 6

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 18:56:45 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Terrelle Pryor finished with three catches on five targets for 23 yards in a 26-24 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Since seeing 11 targets in Week 1, Pryor hasn't seen more than five balls thrown his way in a game. With several quality targets to contend with in Washington, it doesn't look like Pryor will come close to matching his production from last season when he was with the Cleveland Browns.

Redskins | Samaje Perine used sparingly

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 18:51:35 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine finished with nine carries for 23 yards and three catches for 24 yards and a touchdown in a 26-24 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Perine salvaged his afternoon with a receiving touchdown, but with Rob Kelley sidelined, it was Chris Thompson leading the team with 16 rush attempts. Even if Kelley missed more time, it is going to be tough to trust Perine as a starter against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7.

Redskins | Chris Thompson logs 20 touches

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 18:46:41 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson finished with a career-high 20 touches against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6, rushing 16 times for 33 yards and catching four passes for 105 yards.

Fantasy Tip: With Rob Kelley sidelined, Thompson was leaned on heavily as a runner and receiver. He has been Washington's most explosive back all year, and he will elevate to RB2 status in PPR formats if he continues to touch the ball this much moving forward.
