Redskins | Vernon Davis could miss final roster

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 11:22:42 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis may not make the final roster if he does not improve as a pass-catcher and blocker, according to The Washington Post's Mike Jones. Jones currently has Davis penciled in as the No. 4 tight end in Washington.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has little fantasy relevance at this point in his career. He'll only be worth a spot start if Jordan Reed, Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen are injured at the same time.

Redskins | Two Redskins rookies may not make team

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 11:09:44 -0700

Washington Redskins rookie RB Keith Marshall and rookie QB Nate Sudfeld were left off the 53-man roster projection by Mike Jones of The Washington Post.

Fantasy Tip: It's certainly not unusual for rookies to miss the cut, but Marshall is the more interesting one here considering Alfred Morris is now gone. Matt Jones will be the lead back, and Mike Jones has Mack Brown pegged as the No. 3 back behind Jones and Chris Thompson. Marshall is still worth a stash in case he does make the squad.

Redskins | Josh Doctson to open as backup?

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 17:59:39 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson is likely to open the year as the backup to WR DeSean Jackson and WR Pierre Garcon while WR Jamison Crowder works as the starting slot receiver, according to bear writer John Keim.

Fantasy Tip: Doctson missed some time during minicamp, and Washington's depth at receiver further hurts his chances of making a quick impact. He should be scooped up early in rookie drafts, but he is a late-round flier in standard formats.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins talks going nowhere

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 23:21:39 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins has had discussions about a long-term deal over the last week, but talks continue to go nowhere. He's expected to play 2016 on the $19.95 million franchise tender.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins burst onto the scene last season and put himself amongst the midrange of the position in fantasy. The team added another receiver in Josh Doctson in the draft, and Cousins has a path paved to do it again. He'll be in the discussion after the first five quarterbacks or so are taken.

Redskins | Will Compton a likely starter

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 12:00:36 -0700

Washington Redskins LB Will Compton has essentially solidified himself atop the Redskins' depth chart, according to Rich Tandler of RealRedskins.com. He has also emerged as a defensive leader.

Redskins | Dashaun Phillips has bulked up

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 12:23:45 -0700

Washington Redskins CB Dashaun Phillips has added nearly 15 pounds this offseason in an effort to compete for the nickel cornerback position. Phillips said he's simply eaten more and lifted weights to get up to 190 pounds from the 175 pounds he weighed around last season. Phillips does appear to be the favorite to start at nickel cornerback in 2016.

Redskins | Jamison Crowder has impressed

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 11:41:33 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Jamison Crowder has excited the coaching staff in offseason practices. Crowder thought he wore down late last year, but he has looked decisive and explosive in his routes in practice this year. Washington will be reluctant to sit Crowder based on how he looked this spring, even when WR Josh Doctson (Achilles') is back. Crowder must show that he can shake defensive backs in press coverage, though.

Fantasy Tip: A lot depends on how Doctson recovers from his injury this spring, but Crowder sounds like he has an ample opportunity to see significant playing time behind DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon in his sophomore season. Take a late-round flier on Crowder as your WR5, and he could develop into a respectable flex option during the year.

Redskins | Arie Kouandjio could earn spot

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 11:36:33 -0700

Washington Redskins OG Arie Kouandjio has been rotating with the starting offensive group in spring practices with OG Spencer Long. OG Shawn Lauvao (ankle) is the starter but hasn't been healthy. Kouandjio could earn the starting nod if he improves as a blocker.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins taking charge

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 11:32:31 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins had some good and bad days during offseason practices, but it's clear that he's taking charge of the offense more and being decisive.

Fantasy Tip: The million dollar question for fantasy owners this year is whether Cousins can repeat his career year from 2015 or even top it. It remains to be seen, but he surely has the weapons to do so again in 2016. Cousins has low-end QB1 appeal but is probably best taken as a top-tier fantasy backup to be safe.

Redskins | Matt Jones shows improvement

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 11:28:09 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones took better paths off handoffs during offseason workouts and showed improvement in mandatory minicamp. The Redskins feel they're in a better spot they were in a year ago with Jones' development. The big question remains how Jones will respond to being the main back for a full season.

Fantasy Tip: Jones has the tools to be an every-down back in the NFL, and he'll get his chance with Alfred Morris leaving in free agency. A bigger problem for Jones in his rookie year were his fumbling issues, so if he can fix those he could be in line for a big year from a production standpoint. Jones has low-end RB1 potential but is safer as a high-end RB2.

Redskins | Jordan Reed has looked good

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 11:24:04 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (ankle) missed three days of practice this week but looked very good when he was in camp, and the coaches' confidence in him has increased. Reed will work out on his own before reporting to training camp next month, and his work ethic has been an underrated part of his game. Reed has improved on getting free on certain routes.

Fantasy Tip: Reed is one of the top receiving options for Kirk Cousins in this offense and is a top-tier TE1. However, injuries have been a big part of his past and remain a concern, so make sure you have a very capable backup if you roll the dice on Reed as your starter.

Redskins | Kory Lichtensteiger remains starter

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 11:23:38 -0700

Washington Redskins OG Kory Lichtensteiger remains the starter even though head coach Jay Gruden wanted to use OG Spencer Long in order to create more options. Long will likely stick at guard and be an emergency backup at center. Long will get a chance to win the starting job in training camp, though.

Redskins | Jordan Reed unable to participate

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 22:45:22 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (ankle) did not practice again Wednesday, June 15, as he deals with a sprained ankle.

Fantasy Tip: Reed is a Top 10 fantasy option at his position when healthy, but he has had a propensity for injury which makes him a bit of a risk. He is even better in leagues which reward points per receptions (PPR), but make sure to have depth on hand due to his injury history.
