Redskins | Jordan Reed to work on blocking

Thu, 05 May 2016 10:51:28 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed said he's going to work on his blocking technique to clean up holding fouls.

Fantasy Tip: Reed broke out with an 87-952-11 season last year. He has had some health concerns, but the upside outweighs that cloud. He's an upper-middle TE1 in fantasy.

Redskins | Chris Thompson on shaky ground?

Thu, 05 May 2016 09:57:10 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson's spot as the backup running back to RB Matt Jones could be in jeopardy after Washington drafted speedy RB Keith Marshall in the seventh round. The Redskins could also re-sign RB Pierre Thomas, which could pose an even bigger threat to Thompson.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson, for now, is the No. 2 runner as the third-down back for Washington behind Jones. That could change quickly, though, and Thompson really is only worth a speculative late-round flier in point-per-reception leagues as a handcuff to Jones.

Redskins | Jordan Reed vital to Kirk Cousins

Thu, 05 May 2016 09:51:41 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed's presence on the field successfully skewed QB Kirk Cousins' numbers in 2015. In 421 pass plays with Reed on the field, Cousins threw for 7.7 yards per attempt with a 111.9 passer rating and 24 touchdowns to four interceptions. When Reed wasn't on the field, Cousins threw for 6.2 yards per attempt with five scores, seven interceptions and a 73.3 rating in 148 plays.

The Redskins were 6-1 when Reed earned more than 65 receiving yards this season and 3-4 when the tight end went under that plateau.

Fantasy Tip: Reed had a big 87-952-11 season, and the team supplemented the offense with WR Josh Doctson in the draft. Reed is an upper-middle TE1, and Cousins is around the same range of quarterbacks. Doctson will give a clearer outlook in training camp, but he's not a bad WR4 gamble

Redskins | Jordan Reed agrees to extension

Thu, 05 May 2016 06:40:40 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed is signing a five-year, $50 million extension Thursday, May 5, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Reed broke out with an 87-952-11 season last year and really took off with Kirk Cousins under center. He's an upper-middle TE1 in 2016.

Redskins | Josh Doctson compared to Pro Bowler

Wed, 04 May 2016 23:14:18 -0700

Washington Redskins rookie WR Josh Doctson has been compared to Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green, a perennial Pro Bowler, by offensive coordinator Sean McVay and head coach Jay Gruden. "When you've got a guy like that with great body control, elite ball skills, (and) a guy that has a 41-inch vert that plays like that, you see it on tape," McVay said Wednesday, May 4.

Fantasy Tip: Doctson won't have the same type of fantasy appeal as Green, at least initially. Target him as more of a WR4 or flex option in seasonal leagues and DFS play, as DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Jordan Reed and Matt Jones all need to be fed, too.

Redskins | Matt Jones to have large role

Wed, 04 May 2016 23:13:47 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones can handle the load, and the team wants him to be the lead back and they're confident he'll jump into the starting role and be just fine. He posted 339 total offensive snaps in 2015, piling up 490 rushing yards and three touchdowns while adding 19 receptions for 304 yards and a score. Offensive coordinator Sean McVay believes Jones can be an every-down back.

Fantasy Tip: Jones has RB2 potential heading into the new season, and he'll be a popular selection in the neighborhood of Rounds 5 through 7. Just make sure to have a tried and true option at running back ahead of him just in case Jones doesn't live up to the hype.

Redskins | Josh Doctson will play outside

Wed, 04 May 2016 16:58:03 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson will start out as an outside receiver, playing behind WRs DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, according to offensive coordinator Sean McVay. McVay and head coach Jay Gruden see similarities between Doctson and Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green. "I think that's a great comparison, because you look at a taller, leaner player with great body control and excellent ball skills," McVay said.

Fantasy Tip: It may take some time for Doctons to acclimate to the professional level, but he definitely has a role to play with the Redskins. He could be more of a downfield threat, like a poor man's DeSean Jackson. For now, consider Doctson a WR4 in fantasy land.
