Redskins | DeAngelo Hall could be released

Sat, 25 Feb 2017 07:35:12 -0800

The Washington Redskins could part ways with FS DeAngelo Hall, who has missed 31 games over the last three seasons and is slated to make $4.25 million in 2017, according to CSNMidAtlantic.com's Rich Tandler. There is also a chance that he could return at a lower salary.

Redskins | Washington interested in Kenny Britt

Fri, 24 Feb 2017 15:20:49 -0800

The Washington Redskins are showing interest in Los Angeles Rams impending free-agent WR Kenny Britt. Britt would be interested in the Redskins if QB Kirk Cousins is their starting quarterback, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: The Redskins could lose DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon in free agency this offseason, so Britt may have a significant role if he signed with the Redskins. He posted 1,002 yards and five touchdowns in 2016 and should receive interest from multiple teams. He probably would be a No. 3 or No. 4 fantasy receiver if he signs with Washington.

Redskins | Washington to talk to own FAs at combine

Fri, 24 Feb 2017 12:28:12 -0800

The Washington Redskins have yet to engage in talks with any of their players with expiring contracts - a list that includes impending free agents WR Pierre Garcon, WR DeSean Jackson, TE Vernon Davis, DE Chris Baker. However, multiple sources report the Redskins expect to meet with the representatives of their impending free agents at the NFL Scouting Combine next week.

Fantasy Tip: It's a common practice for front office personnel and player reps to discuss contracts at the combine, although Washington is making an already very long week even longer by handling its business in this manner. Garcon and Jackson are each expected to command at least $9 million in their next contracts, so both players could be on different teams next season. It's a virtual certainty at least one will not come back.

Redskins | Josh Doctson running drills

Fri, 24 Feb 2017 08:33:38 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (Achilles') was doing drills at the team's facility Friday, Feb. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Doctson could have a large role next year with Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson potentially gone. He'll have to prove it in camp, though. He's a WR4 option with upside depending on how things shake out.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins red-hot during middle of 2016

Wed, 22 Feb 2017 20:30:18 -0800

Impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins was mostly average as a passer in September (79-of-124 for 989 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions) and December (85-of-134, 1,090 yards, four TDs and three interceptions) but excelled in October and November (combined 220-of-313 for 2,551 yards, 17 TDs and four interceptions).

Fantasy Tip: Included in that midseason explosion was a 375-yard, three-score performance against a shorthanded Green Bay Packers secondary and garbage-time inspired 449-yard, three-TD effort on Thanksgiving Day against the Dallas Cowboys. Cousins is likely to receive the franchise tag soon, but it fair to wonder if he deserves it. He is certain to be drafted as a QB1 in the likely event he remains with Washington this season, but he could disappoint with DeSean Jackson and Pierre GarÁon likely departing via free agency.

Redskins | DeSean Jackson wants to play with great QB

Tue, 21 Feb 2017 19:07:07 -0800

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson said that if he leaves the team in free agency, he wants to play with a "great quarterback." When asked about QB Kirk Cousins, he referred to him as "great" as well.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson has also been linked to the Eagles and Buccaneers, both led by young quarterbacks who have the potential to be great one day, but with Jackson entering the latter portion of his career, he might prefer to stick with a more established option like Cousins. Despite being 30 years old, Jackson proved this past season he still has more than enough left in the tank, and can still offer solid value depending on where he ends up in 2017.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins tag would bloat cap space

Tue, 21 Feb 2017 06:41:53 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins, who could potentially receive the franchise tag at $23.9 million, would account for 35 percent of the team's salary cap with CB Josh Norman ($20 million) and OT Trent Williams ($15.1 million).

Fantasy Tip: Cousins' numbers were on par, in some places better, than his breakout 2015 campaign. He has proven to be a solid fantasy option in the low-end QB1 range.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins won't sign long-term deal?

Mon, 20 Feb 2017 21:36:53 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will not sign a long-term deal prior to the March 1 deadline when the club can apply the franchise tag, according to "a source with knowledge of the situation."

Fantasy Tip: Well, even if that is the case, the Redskins can still lock up Cousins over the long haul by turning a potential franchise tag into a long-term contract, and the deadline for that would be July 15. Either way, it looks like Cousins will be entering his sixth straight campaign in a Washington uniform, and after another fabulous showing in 2016, he'll have low-end QB1 potential.

Redskins | DeSean Jackson to receive strong interest

Sun, 19 Feb 2017 12:33:32 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent WR DeSean Jackson is expected to receive strong interest once free agency begins because he is still only of the fastest receivers in the NFL even though he is 30 years old.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson has posted at least 1,000 yards in three of the last four seasons and has recorded four touchdowns in each of the last two seasons. Jackson should be a starting receiver for whoever he plays for in 2017 and can be a No. 3 receiver for fantasy owners.

Redskins | Jordan Reed endorses Kirk Cousins

Sat, 18 Feb 2017 19:16:47 -0800

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed said bringing back impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins should be a top priority this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Reed is one of the best fantasy tight ends in the game when he isn't dealing with injuries. If Cousins is back under center in Washington in 2017, Reed should remain a TE1 in all formats.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins wants tag?

Fri, 17 Feb 2017 20:12:14 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins would prefer to receive the franchise tag again in 2017 because he doesn't want to remain with the team long term, according to former Redskins officials.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins will likely be back in Washington in 2017 one way or the other, and he has shown over the last two years he is capable of providing big numbers. He will be a borderline QB1 next season.

Redskins | Kenny Stills an option for Redskins?

Wed, 15 Feb 2017 20:13:21 -0800

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent WR Kenny Stills is a possible replacement for Washington Redskins impending free-agent WR DeSean Jackson, according to The Washington Post's Mark Bullock.

Fantasy Tip: Stills is a deep threat in the same vein as D-Jax. At just 24, though, he is entering the prime of his career and has a chance to become a more reliable contributor after his big-play 2016 showing. We have seen flashes from Stills in New Orleans and Miami, but he was a supporting cast member rather than the focal point. While much remains unsettled, his base value is in the low-end WR3 to No. 4 conversation, with an upside of a midrange WR2.

Redskins | Kenny Britt a target for Washington?

Wed, 15 Feb 2017 19:57:20 -0800

Los Angeles Rams impending free-agent WR Kenny Britt is a possible replacement for Washington Redskins impending free-agent WR Pierre Garcon, according to The Washington Post's Mark Bullock.

Fantasy Tip: Britt is more of a glorified possession receiver in the mold of Garcon and is coming off one of his best NFL seasons. Assuming he lands with Washington and QB Kirk Cousins is retained, we're still looking at nothing better than a high-risk WR3 with Britt's injury history.
