Tennessee Titans news, rumors and injuries

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) has ditched the scooter that helped him keep weight off his repaired right leg and switched to a walking boot Tuesday, Feb. 28. It's the next step in his recovery from surgery to fix a broken fibula.
Fantasy Tip: This is right on schedule for Mariota, as he continues to be on track to return in time for training camp. As long as he returns at 100 percent, he could offer fantasy owners sneaky good value, after exhibiting shades of being a legitimate QB1 in his sophomore campaign this past season. Before going down in Week 16, Mariota registered 3,426 passing yards and 26 touchdowns compared to just nine interceptions. He also ran for 349 yards and recorded two rushing TDs.

Impending free-agent WR Alshon Jeffery is one of several potential veteran or rookie lead receivers the Tennessee Titans intend to pursue, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, who added the Titans have "made it clear" they will be "very active" this offseason.
Fantasy Tip: This is not exactly a revelation, but Garafolo stated Tennessee will make "a push" to upgrade the position and "prepared to spend" in order to do so. With the Los Angeles Rams' No. 5 pick at their disposal and an estimated $62 million in cap space, it is conceivable the Titans are able to snag both Jeffery - the top receiver on the free-agent market - and Clemson's Mike Williams or Western Michigan's Corey Davis, who are projected to be the first receivers off the board in April's draft.

Free-agent CB Alterraun Verner (Buccaneers), who played his first four seasons with the Titans from 2010-13, is likely not "in play" for Tennessee this offseason, according to ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky.

Fantasy Tip: Depth-chart proclamations in February mean very little since they usually only serve as a reminder of how things were when the season ended; Henry and Murray obviously haven't set foot on a field in over a month. Murray logged 346 touches in 2016 and is one of the league's more complete running backs, but he is entering his age-29 season and a prime regression candidate. Henry still may not earn enough of a role to be a regular fantasy starter as a sophomore, but he remains a strong buy in dynasty leagues.

Fantasy Tip: The Titans plan on holding Mariota out of OTAs in an effort to make sure he doesn't suffer any kind of needless setback, so he is a very good bet to be fully healthy by the time training camp rolls around. Assuming Tennessee lands a top-notch receiver in the draft as expected, Mariota stands a very good chance of settling in as a midrange QB1 in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota appears to be the real deal, although his running ability may get him into trouble. He's already missed five games in his first two years. Even so, he's a low-end QB1 to high-end QB2 consideration for next season's fantasy drafts.

Tennessee Titans WR Rishard Matthews posted career highs in catches (65), receiving yards (945) and touchdowns (9) last season. The 65 catches were tied for the team lead, while his nine touchdowns were the most on the Titans.
Fantasy Tip: Matthews eventually cemented himself as the No. 1 receiver in Tennessee. He should maintain that status in 2017, especially with Kendall Wright heading for free agency. Don't expect as good of a season from Matthews, but he should still be drafted in the low-end WR2 to high-end WR3 territory.

Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson values "draft capital," and beat writer Jason Wolf believes the Titans could trade the No. 5 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft to a team desperate to land a franchise quarterback.

Tennessee Titans impending free-agent DE Karl Klug (Achilles') is making progress in his recovery from Achilles' tendon surgery, but he may not be ready for the start of training camp, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.
Wed, 15 Feb 2017 11:12:08 -0800
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Mularkey said the team will be very cautious with QB Marcus Mariota (leg) and probably will keep him out until the start of training camp. Mularkey said Mariota's recovery is on schedule.
Fantasy Tip: Mariota will have the entire offseason to recover from his fractured fibula and should be ready for training camp. He improved in his second year in the NFL and finished with 3,426 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also added 349 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Mariota should continue to improve and can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in some fantasy leagues.

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) is going to be fine following surgery to repair a fractured fibula, according to Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles, who had the same surgery in 2006. "So Marcus is going to be good to go," Sproles said. "He'll probably be better than ever."
Fantasy Tip: Mariota showcased a high ceiling last year, and with Tennessee likely to add a weapon or two on the offensive side, he is a QB1 candidate in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: If the Titans do spend one of their two first-round picks on a receiver, that player would be worth an immediate look in fantasy circles. Even if a receiver isn't added, Walker will remain one of the safest TE1 options in 2017.

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota became the first player in franchise history to post back-to-back seasons with a passer rating of 90 or better. In his rookie season in 2015, Mariotta finished with a 91.5 QB rating, before wrapping up his sophomore campaign this past year with a 95.6 QB rating.
Fantasy Tip: There's no doubt Mariota is one of the league's brightest young quarterbacks, and his fantasy outlook in the years ahead looks very promising due to his dual-threat ability. While his status going into training camp is still a bit up in the air after he fractured his fibula late in the year, Mariota could potentially return terrific value in '17 as long as he's healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota had a terrific second season in the NFL but probably will miss some of the offseason workouts because of his fractured fibula. He should be an attractive option for fantasy owners next season as long as he is healthy and can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback.

Tennessee Titans CB Jason McCourty is due $7 million next season and "will have to fight to retain his starting spot if he is not released as a cap cut", according to TitanInsider.com's Terry McCormick.
