Buccaneers | Mike Evans feels he was held back

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 19:00:33 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans is expected to play more on an island in 2015 as the "X" receiver in Tampa Bay's new offense, which is the same role offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter created for Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones during Koetter's time with that organization. He said Monday, June 29, that the QB carousell of Josh McCown and Mike Glennon last year held him back, too, so he is excited about a potential breakout with QB Jameis Winston.

Fantasy Tip: Evans posted huge numbers last season, finishing with over 1,000 yards while scoring 12 touchdowns. If he can improve on those numbers he will be a Top 5 fantasy option at his position. Look for him to fly off the board rather early on draft day.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston staying focused

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 11:02:15 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston is maintaining his focus while eyes stay peeled on him in his rookie offseason. Winston said he's focused on being a quarterback on and off the field. He added that he's also focused on bouncing back from the mistakes he's made, saying he has nothing to prove.

Fantasy Tip: Whether or not Winston really has put his tumultuous past behind him remains to be seen, but he's at least saying the right things. His teammates seem to be warming up to him and he's performed well, for the most part, this offseason. That being said, Winston should not be considered a starting fantasy quarterback in his rookie season.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston looking to drop weight

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 14:24:30 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston said he wants to lose some weight before the start of training camp. Winston said he currently weighs 238 pounds and would like to drop to around 230 pounds.

Fantasy Tip: Winston likely will enter training camp as the leading candidate for the starting quarterback job and probably will be the starting quarterback Week 1. Owners should consider Winston as a No. 2 fantasy quarterback this season since he probably will struggle at times.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston working hard

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 19:34:34 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston has been arriving at the team's facility at 6 a.m. for weightlifting and conditioning, and not leaving until 12 hours later. And he said he has been studying after that. "At home I study about two hours," Winston said Wednesday, June 24. "I try to get some rest but sometimes I've got to look over my script."

Fantasy Tip: Winston appears to be working hard in order to be ready and serve as the starter for Week 1, but he has split starter snaps with Mike Glennon in offseason work. If he can win the starting job immediately he will be worth drafting as a fantasy backup, but do not expect him to rise above Top 20 status at his position in his rookie season.

Buccaneers | Mike Evans works out with Randy Moss

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 14:51:06 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans said he worked out with former NFL WR Randy Moss for a week this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Evans had a terrific rookie season with 1,051 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in 15 games. Evans should be one of the team's top targets this season and likely will be selected in one of the earlier rounds of fantasy drafts.

Buccaneers | Vincent Jackson may see time in slot

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 11:35:32 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson could line up in the slot at times this season.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson should be on the field most of the time but could create a favorable matchup if he lines up as a slot receiver. Jackson finished last season with 1,002 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Jackson could be a solid option in the middle rounds of drafts this season.

Buccaneers | Tight ends to be used more in TB?

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 11:55:25 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins could be used more this year in new offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter's system. ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas believes Seferian-Jenkins will be a big part of the offense in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Seferian-Jenkins had a respectable rookie campaign, but only played in nine games because of injuries. It may take some time to get acclimated to the new offense and rookie quarterback Jameis Winston, but the potential is there. Draft him as a TE2.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston following advice

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 20:19:09 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston said he appreciates the advice he has received from DT Gerald McCoy and believes it is helping him earn the respect of the veterans on the team.

Fantasy Tip: Expect a steep learning curve for Winston in his rookie year, but he has enough weapons to work with in Tampa Bay, to deliver an occasional solid performance. Don't be surprised if he is worth a look as a sleeper play against friendlier matchups later in the season.

Buccaneers | Mike Evans being used as 'X' WR

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 17:49:49 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans said he's being used exclusively as an 'X' wide receiver. Evans was used as the 'Z' receiver as a rookie, but he said he likes the move and "being on an island."

Fantasy Tip: Evans demonstrated the size and skill necessary to win just about any one-on-one battle in his rookie season. Evans should be selected as a WR3 heading into his sophomore season, and he has WR2 upside.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston wants to earn job

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 17:26:41 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston said Tuesday, June 16, he wants to earn the starting quarterback job, as opposed to having it handed to him. Winston doesn't plan to take it safe during the process, either. "I like to throw guys open," Winston told USA TODAY Sports after Tuesday's opening practice of minicamp. "I threw a couple interceptions last year. But it's a new year, and I've got a lot of good guys, and I'm looking forward to greatness," said Winston.

Fantasy Tip: Winston finished his final season at Florida State with 18 interceptions. With a couple of great receivers in Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson, Winston should be able to cut down on that number during his rookie season in the NFL. While Winston has the upside to emerge as a fantasy option later in the season, he should be avoided in standard 12-team drafts.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin rising to occasion

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 18:07:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin is one of several running backs vying for playing time in the team's backfield, along with RBs Dominique Brown, Bobby Rainey and Charles Sims. Martin has shed some body fat and re-gained weight in muscle. He is excited about the competition and feels good. "Competition out here helps us all," Martin said. "If you don't have anybody that's pushing you then who's going to make you better?"

Fantasy Tip: Martin appears to be in great shape heading into 2015, and he could be a decent bargain on draft day in the middle rounds. He was a Pro Bowler in 2012, and led the team in rushing in 2014. If he can stay healthy he could be a nice surprise for fantasy owners. He has plenty left in the tank.

Buccaneers | Dominique Brown impressing

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 18:06:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Dominique Brown, an undrafted free agent, looked sharp during organized team activities (OTAs).

Fantasy Tip: Brown has plenty of company in the backfield, but if injuries crop up like they did in past seasons in Tampa, the UDFA could find his way into a meaningful role if he continues to impress into training camp and the preseason.
