Buccaneers | Jameis Winston impresses TB at pro day

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 11:26:51 -0700

Former Florida State QB Jameis Winston impressed Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht at his pro day Tuesday, March 31. Licht said Winston makes players around him better, and he felt that Winston showed that during his pro day. The Buccaneers hold the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft and it is widely speculated that they will select Winston.

Fantasy Tip: It's usually a risky proposition to draft a rookie quarterback to start for your fantasy football squad. Winston should be drafted as a backup to start off the season to give him time to get over the professional learning curve.

Buccaneers | Marcus Mariota will work out for Bucs

Sat, 28 Mar 2015 10:07:49 -0700

Former Oregon QB Marcus Mariota has a private workout scheduled with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers April 7.

Fantasy Tip: The Buccaneers possess the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft. It has been widely speculated that Jameis Winston will be Tampa Bay's selection, but nothing is set in stone, of course. Mariota would certainly have some fantasy appeal in Tampa Bay with Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans at his disposal.

Buccaneers | Mike Glennon could be trade option

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 11:37:04 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon has been a topic of conversation from other teams checking on his availability this offseason, according to head coach Lovie Smith.

Fantasy Tip: Teams looking for a starting option could consider trading for Glennon since the price likely would not be too much. Glennon should be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback next season if he is able to win a starting job.

Buccaneers | TB leaning Jameis Winston

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 10:22:22 -0700

Florida State QB Jameis Winston is the favorite to be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' choice at No. 1 overall in the 2015 NFL Draft, and head coach Lovie Smith confirmed it. However, Smith said the team is doing their due diligence on other players they could consider at the top spot. Tampa's research on Winston has them convinced that he can be a leader at the next level. "Everything checks out on him, too ... the guy can complete every throw," Smith said. "A lot has been said about his football intelligence. He's just a leader."

Fantasy Tip: Winston is the most NFL-ready quarterback prospect in this draft, so it'd make sense for him to go first overall to the Bucs. He'll be competing for the starting gig in training camp with Mike Glennon. Winston surely has long-term appeal as a franchise quarterback, but expecting him to contribute in fantasy leagues in 2015 isn't wise.

Buccaneers | Considering more than QBs

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 10:08:44 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith said during the NFL Annual Meeting last weekend that the team has plenty of other options aside from quarterbacks to discuss with their No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Popular thinking has the Bucs taking Florida State QB Jameis Winston with the top overall pick. "We have a good quarterback we feel like, Mike Glennon, on our roster right now," Smith said. "We realize that there are two excellent quarterbacks out there. We're kind of going through the process right now. We're trying to improve our ball club."

Buccaneers | Bucs open to drafting QB first overall

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 09:02:57 -0700

Florida State QB Jameis Winston and Oregon QB Marcus Mariota are widely believed to be considered by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the first overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, and Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer has approved the team taking either Winston or Mariota with the No. 1 overall selection. "But fundamentally, we believe in letting Lovie and Jason do all their ground work, and their staffs, come to their conclusions, discuss it with us, talk about their reasoning and as long as it makes sense, we're supportive. But at the end of the day, whatever decision we make, I see us all being on the same page, agreeing and moving forward," Glazer said.

Fantasy Tip: The Bucs are widely expected to draft Winston with the first overall pick, and he'll have a decent shot to win the starting job in training camp over Mike Glennon. However, in Winston's rookie year, he might only be worth a late-round flier as a weak QB2.

Buccaneers | Tampa open to trading down

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 07:51:26 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith hinted the team could be open to trading down from No. 1 overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. "I can see why people would assume we're gonna take a quarterback," Smith said. "There are two excellent quarterbacks that are available at the top and when you get a chance to draft someone like that, most of the time, people do. But there are other good players in the draft also. I think it's a deep draft for defensive line. Like last year, there are a lot of great receivers that are coming out. I think, just overall, the amount of athletes coming into each incoming class, it's pretty deep for players that can make an immediate impact."
