Buccaneers | No talks ongoing for Mike Evans

Mon, 12 Feb 2018 13:56:31 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans and the Buccaneers are not currently negotiating a new deal, according to Evans' agent. Evans' fifth-year option was picked up last year, so he will be earning $13.2 million in 2018. Both parties will evaluate Evans' contract when the time comes, but for now he's going to focus on playing out his current deal, his agent added.

Fantasy Tip: Evans is one of the best wide receivers in the league when he's healthy and clicking with Jameis Winston. Last season was a substantial down year for Evans, but don't let that keep you from drafting him as a WR1. Odds are 2017's results will be an anomaly.

Buccaneers | DeSean Jackson wants chemistry with QB

Sun, 11 Feb 2018 18:51:12 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR DeSean Jackson said he and QB Jameis Winston need to "merge" this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Both Jackson and the Tampa Bay offense disappointed last year, but another offseason could help Jackson and Winston get on the same page. Jackson still has enough big-play potential to grab in the later rounds in 2018.

Buccaneers | TB likely to pick up Jameis Winston's option

Fri, 09 Feb 2018 15:11:04 -0800

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers likely will pick up QB Jameis Winston's fifth-year option this offseason, in the opinion of Buccaneers.com's Scott Smith.

Fantasy Tip: Winston is coming off a disappointing 2017 season but should have most of his offensive weapons back next season. He can be considered a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback or a No. 2 quarterback depending on the league.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin not returning?

Wed, 17 Jan 2018 11:21:24 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin has "no chance" of being on Tampa Bay's roster next season, in the opinion of the Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career, playing in just 16 games over the last two seasons. His production lacked when he was playing, so there is merit to releasing Martin. At 29 years old, he may be over the football hill. Peyton Barber, Charles Sims and Jacquizz Rodgers are more than capable of manning the Bucs' backfield.

Buccaneers | DeSean Jackson talks Jameis Winston

Wed, 17 Jan 2018 11:09:36 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston needs to go back to having fun with football, according to WR DeSean Jackson. "Go back to being comfortable [as] who he used to be. Go back to having fun," Jackson said about his quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Winston struggled in 2017, and maybe taking the game too seriously impacted his play. Jackson could be on to something, but losing will take its toll on anyone no matter how much fun they having playing. Winston has QB1 upside, but it's safer to draft him as a high-end QB2.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin 'wasn't ever the same' in 2017

Tue, 16 Jan 2018 09:16:01 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin failed to rush for even 500 yards for the fourth time in five years. General manager Jason Licht attributed Martin's most recent disappointing season to his season-opening suspension and the idea he wasn't able to reach the form he showed in the preseason after returning from his three-game absence. "I think the lack of, or having a hard time getting the run game going was…you know, Doug just didn't have…he just wasn't ever the same. And it wasn't until late that Peyton (Barber) kind of arrived and things started going a little bit better with him, starting with the Green Bay game and on and on," Licht said.

Fantasy Tip: It's a weak excuse, especially considering Martin looked sharp in his season debut against the New England Patriots in Week 5. Martin obviously wasn't able to find the same form, but his offensive line didn't do him any favors either - even before injuries really started to strike the front five. Either way, Martin is likely done in Tampa Bay, which figures to add a running back in the first two to three rounds of the upcoming NFL Draft.
