Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin was confirmed as the team's lead back Monday, Aug. 3, by head coach Lovie Smith. "We talked about being able to establish the run. Doug will be the lead guy doing that, so it's very important that we open up some holes and let him do his thing," Smith said via the Tampa Bay Times.
Fantasy Tip: Martin's average yards per carry has dropped from 4.6 in his rookie season to 3.6 and 3.7 in each of the previous two seasons. Martin totaled just three touchdowns over 17 games played in 2013 and 2014, and he shouldn't be drafted as anything more than an RB3.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Lovie Smith said he wants to prepare Winston for the types of defensive looks he'll see in the regular season. This should serve as a reminder to fantasy owners of the troubles that Winston will experience in the early-going of his rookie season, and the risk that will accompany drafting him in any format.

Fantasy Tip: In what comes as a surprise to absolutely no one, Winston is the guy in Tampa Bay. His fantasy outlook is that of a moderately risky rookie whose inconsistency will lead to head-scratching moments. Avoid him in standard drafts, but look Winston's way when playing FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Rookies can't get enough live professional football experience, including talented, big-name rookie quarterbacks. Tampa Bay wants Winston to be as prepared as possible for the regular season. The obvious risk is that the more Winston plays in preseason, the higher the risk is of being injured. He should be viewed as a backup fantasy quarterback as he enters his rookie season.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is reportedly leaner and faster this year, but he has a ways to go to get back into the good graces of the coaching staff. He'll compete with Charles Sims, Dominique Brown and Bobby Rainey for carries. View Martin as an RB4 with a bit of upside.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Lavonte David's contract negotiations could be complicated by the fact that he provides uncommon production for a 4-3 outside linebacker but just two 4-3 outside linebackers currently make at least $6.5 million per year.
