Buccaneers | Jameis Winston expected to be suspended

Thu, 21 Jun 2018 15:42:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston is expected to be suspended for the first three games of the 2018 season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, according to sources. The suspension could increase or decrease depending on the circumstances surrounding the off-field incident.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see when a suspension will officially be announced. Winston could still be a No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues, but owners would need a strong backup to use early in the season. Ryan Fitzpatrick probably would start if Winston sits out but is not a great fantasy option.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston bracing for suspension

Thu, 21 Jun 2018 07:58:36 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston is expecting a suspension by the NFL for an incident with an Uber driver in 2016, according to ESPN Radio 97.9 in Tallahassee's Jeff Cameron. Cameron's sources told him that the maximum is likely three games, but the most likely event is that he's suspended one game. Winston was accused of groping a female Uber driver in Scottsdale, Ariz., and the suspension would stem from his failure to report the incident to the league. The personal conduct policy states players are "to promptly report any matter that comes to their attention (through victim or witness reports, law enforcement, or media reports) that may constitute a violation of this policy." It's unknown if Winston would appeal.

Fantasy Tip: Winston is a midrange QB1 with some upside due to the talent around him. The Bucs have a bye in Week 5, and if he misses three games, then you have him for one game in the first five weeks of the season. You would have to draft another starting option with him in that event. If he misses one game, his value doesn't falter too much.

Buccaneers | O.J. Howard poised to break out?

Sun, 17 Jun 2018 13:18:35 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE O.J. Howard "showed how versatile and explosive he can be during minicamp," according to Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times.

Fantasy Tip: Howard caught 26 passes for 432 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie, and a strong case can be made Tampa Bay used him much too often as a blocker and not nearly often enough as a receiver in 2017. While Cameron Brate figures to remain a factor in the red zone for the foreseeable future, Howard is too talented not to become one of the top 10 tight ends in the league early in his career. It could happen as soon as this season. He's well worth investing in as a high-upside TE2 late in drafts.

Buccaneers | Ronald Jones to get heavy workload quickly?

Sun, 17 Jun 2018 11:05:34 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones could post the biggest numbers of the team's defense-heavy draft class since he should get 15 to 20 touches per game, according to Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear whether or not Stroud meant he can see Jones taking on that kind of workload right away or down the road. It has been widely assumed and reported Jones will begin his rookie season by sharing early-down touches with Peyton Barber while ceding third-down work to Charles Sims. That should still be the expectation for now, but Jones is also a solid bet to move into the role Stroud is describing later in the season. He should be drafted as a RB3 but has immense upside.

Buccaneers | Ronald Jones inks contract

Thu, 14 Jun 2018 10:56:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones signed his four-year rookie deal Thursday, June 14. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Jones provides the Buccaneers with an immediate threat out of the backfield, particularly in the passing game. He'll lose a decent amount of touches to Peyton Barber and Charles Sims, but Jones has RB3 appeal at worst with added value in PPR leagues.

Buccaneers | More read-option for Jameis Winston?

Thu, 07 Jun 2018 11:07:21 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston could be running some more read-option plays in 2018, according to head coach Dirk Koetter.

Fantasy Tip: The read-option has the ability to open up the offense and inflate Winston's running numbers a little bit. The Buccaneers don't want to further risk injury to their franchise quarterback, though. Either way, Winston is primed for a rebound season and needs to be drafted as a QB1.

Buccaneers | Ronald Jones to be factor in passing game

Tue, 05 Jun 2018 02:15:09 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones is being envisioned as a "three-down back" by running backs coach Tim Spencer, who added that he would want Jones "to be able to catch the ball because we have some things we'd like to give him with his speed."

Fantasy Tip: Jones will be one of this year's rookies that is put in a meaningful position for his club right out of the gate, as it's even possible he leads the Bucs' running game in touches by the end of the season. Although Peyton Barber emerged at the end of last season and did a respectable job, Jones might have the higher ceiling, making him a worthwhile FLEX pick in fantasy drafts.
