Buccaneers | Tampa works out four kickers

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 12:54:55 -0800

Free-agent PKs Josh Scobee (Steelers), Nate Freese (Lions), Mike Meyer (Titans) and undrafted free-agent Cameron Starke (James Madison) worked out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, Feb. 12.

Fantasy Tip: The team have not signed any of the kickers at this point and probably will not unless they suffer an injury at the position. Connor Barth probably will enter training camp as the starting kicker but is not a great fantasy option.

Buccaneers | Tampa can afford Doug Martin

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 11:12:42 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin would cost the Bucs around $11.5 million if they give him the franchise tag, and that is a figure that Tampa can afford with plenty of salary cap space available this year.

Fantasy Tip: The Bucs would be wise not to let Martin get away after he was second in rushing in 2015 with 1,402 yards on 288 carries. If Martin remains in Tampa in a promising up-and-coming offense with young quarterback Jameis Winston at the helm, he'd be an RB1 for fantasy purposes.

Buccaneers | To be selective in free agency

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 10:04:52 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said the team will be selective in free agency, which means they'd be unlikely to shell out a ton of money for the likes of Miami Dolphins impending free-agent DE Olivier Vernon and others. "We still believe the best way for us to go is to draft and develop players. You can't think you're going to put yourself over the top by signing these high-dollar guys," Licht said.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin to hit the market?

Thu, 11 Feb 2016 21:08:44 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin isn't close to agreeing on a contract extension, and Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times believes Martin will test the free-agent market.

Fantasy Tip: The two sides could ultimately agree on a deal, and the Buccaneers could use the franchise tag on Martin. If he ends up back in Tampa Bay, he should be a solid RB1 in an offense with some developing young weapons.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin wants to stay in Tampa Bay

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 18:37:18 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin said he wants to sign a new deal to stay with the team but would also play if he is given the franchise tag.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is coming off an excellent year, and despite some injury risk, he is a solid RB1 candidate if he returns to a Tampa Bay offense that has a young, improving core.

Buccaneers | Tampa Bay has interest in Braxton Miller

Sun, 31 Jan 2016 18:57:23 -0800

Ohio State WR Braxton Miller said the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have shown interest in him and have remained in contact with him since Senior Bowl practices.

Fantasy Tip: Miller is still transitioning to the receiver position after playing quarterback in college up until last season, but he is an explosive athlete with the ball in his hands. If he lands in a Tampa Bay offense filled with young weapons, he would be worth a late-round flier in fantasy drafts for his potential alone.

Buccaneers | Mike Evans led league in drops in 2015

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 10:12:50 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers new offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Todd Monken stated in his introductory news conference that his top priority will be to coach the team's receivers. His top priority will be finding a way to cut down on WR Mike Evans' league-leading 11 drops.

Fantasy Tip: Evans saw his catch and yardage totals increase from his rookie year, but watched his touchdown total plummet from 12 in 2014 to three last season with rookie QB Jameis Winston under center. Evans is a prime bounce-back candidate that owners should target as a high-upside WR2 as he enters his third season.

Buccaneers | Tampa giving Logan Mankins time

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 09:49:34 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers OG Logan Mankins will be given time to mull his decision to return for the 2016 season, and the team will not ask him to take a pay cut from his $6.75 million salary.

Buccaneers | Vincent Jackson returning

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 09:27:47 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson will return to the team in 2016. The Buccaneers were 4-4 with him and 2-6 without him in the lineup in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: V-Jax, 33, had a down year and is clearly in decline. However, with Mike Evans opposite of him, and Austin Seferian-Jenkins showing signs of budding into a capable receiver, he could have value in PPR leagues to round out your receiving corps.

Buccaneers | New Bucs coordinator wants big plays

Thu, 28 Jan 2016 14:58:39 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Todd Monken said he wants to design and run more explosive plays and trick plays in 2016. "We don't need more five-yard plays," Monken said. "How can we be explosive? That's what the game's about. People like big plays. I like big plays."

Fantasy Tip: Surely Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson are chomping at the bit to get back on the field if this is their new offensive coordinator's mindset. The Buccaneers have the tools to attempt more big plays. Evans, Jackson and Austin Seferian-Jenkins usually tower over their defenders. Bigger plays could help open up Tampa Bay's offense as a whole and give Doug Martin more running space, too.
