Buccaneers | Jameis Winston already impressing

Thu, 28 May 2015 16:52:04 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston has quickly shown a good work ethic just a few days into organized team activities. "We have to kind of tell him when to leave," head coach Lovie Smith said. Smith added that he's pleased with where Winston is at right now in his progress with the offense. "I've seen marked improvement… He's showing more and more comfort in the pocket. There's a lot you ask a rookie to do, but Jameis is picking it all up." TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins said Winston is getting better every day and quickly picking up the offense.

Fantasy Tip: Hopefully Winston can continue this pace throughout the offseason. So far, he seems to be learning quickly and succeeding while learning. No matter how much Winston learns and improves and impresses this offseason, however, it will be hard to consider him a starting fantasy quarterback in his rookie season.

Buccaneers | Mike Evans hurts hamstring

Thu, 28 May 2015 13:45:55 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (hamstring) tweaked his hamstring during organized team activities Thursday, May 28. Head coach Lovie Smith said Evans' injury isn't major.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Evans will be fine, especially since Smith added that Evans tweaked his hamstring last year. He ended up catching 68 passes for 1,051 yards and 12 touchdowns. Plus, Evans still has plenty of time to recover, not that a tweak takes a lot of time to recover from. He should be drafted as a high-end WR2 to low-end WR1.

Buccaneers | Charles Sims could start for TB

Tue, 26 May 2015 14:31:32 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims has a solid chance of beating out RB Doug Martin for Tampa Bay's starting running back gig, according to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has mostly been a disappointment since his outstanding rookie season. Sims hasn't been given a lot of opportunities to show what he's capable of as he only played in eight games of his rookie season last year. It could end up being more of a running back by committee (Bobby Rainey and Mike James are also available), but Martin needs to step up his game if he doesn't want Sims to supplant him.

Buccaneers | Charles Sims excited for new season

Tue, 26 May 2015 14:25:54 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is anxious to capitalize on his short-lived 2014 campaign when he suffered a torn ankle tendon that caused him to miss the first eight games of the season. "I was just getting in the groove and then the season was over," Sims said. "I'm looking forward to next year and it will be interesting to see what's going to happen."

Fantasy Tip: Sims is expected to play a big role for the Bucs in 2015, but he'll still have Doug Martin, Bobby Rainey and Mike James to compete with for playing time. If it wasn't such a crowded backfield, Sims could be a valuable asset to fantasy squads, and that could still end up being the case. For now, however, he's in RB3 territory.

Buccaneers | Charles Sims will be featured

Sat, 23 May 2015 15:17:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is viewed very highly by his coaches, according to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com. Sims is expected to be the featured back in the offense.

Fantasy Tip: Sims is likely to feature very prominently in the passing game. Sims averaged 10.0 yards per reception on 19 catches last season, showing promise in an area of the game in which Doug Martin struggles mightily. Sims should be available in the late rounds of 2015 fantasy drafts, and he has the ability to wind up as an RB2.

Buccaneers | Kaelin Clay to be the return man

Sat, 16 May 2015 11:23:04 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie WR Kaelin Clay will be the Buccaneers' return specialist, according to general manager Jason Licht. "He was a guy we targeted early. Another fast, explosive guy, [he's] got a great background in terms of his speed and his production… Right now, it's his job to lose." Licht said Clay will return both punts and kickoffs.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston learning quickly

Sun, 10 May 2015 20:34:08 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston was praised by head coach Lovie smith for his ability to learn the playbook. "He's been cramming like it's a final exam, and he's doing a good job of it," Smith said. "We've seen marked improvement from the moment we gave him his playbook. Jameis is a bright guy. He'll be able to get it all."

Fantasy Tip: It is no surprise to hear Smith supporting his young quarterback in the early going. Winston should be considered a QB2 heading into his rookie season.
