Comment (0) | Share: Buccaneers | Butch Davis not a done deal Fri, 10 Feb 2012 07:50:06 -0800 Although there are reports that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have hired Butch Davis as a defensive assistant, that is not yet a done deal. Davis' role with the team has yet to be determined. He could serve an advisory role only with Tampa Bay due to his contract with the University North Carolina, Davis' former team. Buried in Davis' contract with UNC – which fired him in July – is an agreement that Davis will get up to $1.7 million in severance payments from 2013 to 2015. The payments, however, would be made only in the event Davis was not employed as a coach elsewhere. If Davis was to take a job coaching elsewhere, the amount of his new coaching salary would be deducted from the payments owed by the university. As a result, Davis has yet to sign a deal with the Buccaneers, according to two sources.
