Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing | Juan Pablo Montoya in bizarre wreck at Daytona 500

Under a caution flag on Lap 160 of the Daytona 500, Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing driver Juan Pablo Montoya's car spun out of control and hit the jet dryer that was cleaning up debris on the track, causing a large fire that was eventually put out by safety personnel. Montoya, who walked out of the car after the wreck, was released from the infield care center. The jet dryer driver was taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. The race is under red flag as the track crew works to clean up the mess.

He is currently 24th in the Cup standings this year. Crew chief Kevin Manion was fined $25,000 and place on probation until Dec. 31. Owner Teresa Earnhardt was penalized 25 points in the Sprint Cup Series owner standings.

FOXSports.com's Lee Spencer reports there is a buzz around NASCAR that Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing could shut down the No. 8 Chevrolet driven by Aric Almirola after this weekend if they aren't able to find a sponsor. If that happens, it would affect the contract of driver Martin Truex Jr., as his contract states his team must give him two teammates or he can leave. It also affects the contract with Bass Pro Shops, as they have a performance clause in their deal and Truex is 28th in points so the team is in a precarious situation. Finally, a deal with Chevrolet could also be impacted. Chevrolet would have the ability to alter their support for Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing if three teams are not covered.
