Seahawks | Michael Bennett unhappy with contract

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 10:01:20 -0700

Seattle Seahawks DE Michael Bennett is unhappy with his contract, saying he wants "to be fairly compensated with the top guys in the league," and believing that he's "definitely one of the top five defensive ends." He added: "I'm just to the point where it's kind of like, if you don't think I'm valuable, then just get rid of me." Bennett is set to make $5.5 million this year and $7 million next year.

Fantasy Tip: He's got a point, as those financial numbers easily pale in comparison to what the upper echelon players at his position are currently making. At the same time, Seattle does have a strict policy in place about negotiating contracts with players who have two or more years remaining on their deal. More likely than not, though, the Seahawks will probably end up taking care of the stud 30-year-old when the time comes. It shouldn't affect his performance this season.

Seahawks | Michael Bennett enters camp unhappy

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 23:55:52 -0700

Seattle Seahawks DE Michael Bennett (ankle) made it clear he wants a new deal, and he did not participate in organized team activities (OTAs) as a result of his unhappiness. He did show for mandatory minicamp, but he sat out with an ankle injury. If his deal is not redone before the season, it will be interesting to see how it affects Bennett into the regular season.

Seahawks | Justin Britt might be a backup

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 23:55:01 -0700

Seattle Seahawks OG Justin Britt has been lining up at center during offseason workouts, but he'll have to hold off C Patrick Lewis for the starting job in training camp and the preseason. If he cannot hang on to the job, he might be looking at a backup role for the first time in his career.

Seahawks | Many replacements for base defense LB

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 23:52:27 -0700

Seattle Seahawks LB Frank Clark is expected to fill the pass-rush void of departed LB Bruce Irvin (Raiders), but LBs Cassius Marsh, Mike Morgan and Eric Pinkins are each vying for playing time in the team's base defense and the competition is believed to be wide open.

Seahawks | Tyler Lockett could take step forward

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 23:51:48 -0700

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett posted 51 receptions for 664 yards and six touchdowns, plus two more as a returner, last season. Head coach Pete Carroll raved about Lockett during the spring and said Lockett is "in the middle" of everything the team planned offensively.

Fantasy Tip: Lockett appear to be in line for big things in 2016, and he could be the No. 2 target in the offense behind Jimmy Graham. He is a nice fantasy sleeper in leagues of 12 or more teams, but he might go rather early if he has a big training camp and preseason.

Seahawks | Trevone Boykin remains No. 2 for now

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 23:51:14 -0700

Seattle Seahawks rookie QB Trevone Boykin remains the team's primary backup to starter QB Russell Wilson, but beat writer Sheil Kapadia says don't be surprised to see the team add a veteran sometime in August.

Fantasy Tip: Boykin was a dual-threat option at Texas Christian University, but he is a project and not expected to take over anytime soon as long as Russell Wilson is in the mix. At this point, Boykin's fantasy appeal even in long-term keeper formats is rather minimal.

Seahawks | Jimmy Graham won't be rushed back

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 23:50:30 -0700

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (knee) is recovering from a ruptured right patellar tendon which he suffered Nov. 29. He is expected to be back on the field for the start of the regular season, but he won't be rushed back. Through the first 12 weeks last season he was the team's most targeted player.

Fantasy Tip: If Graham is back to 100 percent healthy, he will once again be a vital cog in the Seattle offense. He got off to a slow start by his standards last season, but might be more comfortable and productive from a fantasy perspective in Year 2, assuming he is healthy.

Seahawks | Thomas Rawls will be eased back

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 23:49:54 -0700

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) is making his way back from a fractured left ankle that included ligament damage in mid-December. He is expected to be ready for the start of training camp, but he will be eased back into action. That will also give the coaching staff a closer look at rookie RBs Alex Collins and C.J. Prosise.

Fantasy Tip: Rawls is expected to handle a lion's share of the carries in the Seattle backfield, and he should be a fantastic RB2 or flex play as he replaces the enigmatic Marshawn Lynch.

Seahawks | Alex Collins will compete immediately

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 14:15:27 -0700

Seattle Seahawks rookie RB Alex Collins is expected to compete right away for playing time as an early-down running back, according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times.

Fantasy Tip: Collins will at least still be behind Thomas Rawls and Christine Michael, as long as they're healthy, and fellow rookie C.J. Prosise, too. Unles Rawls suffers a setback or another injury occurs this offseason, Collins can probably be avoided in traditional leagues.

Seahawks | Russell Wilson elite with protection

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 12:36:57 -0700

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson led all quarterbacks in Defense-adjusted Value Over Average (DVOA) last season when he was adequately protected, according to Football Outsiders. DVOA measures efficiency by comparing success on every play to the league average based on situation and opponent. Wilson was solid under pressure, too, ranking fourth in DVOA among quarterbacks.

Fantasy Tip: The Seahawks may not need to pass as much as they did last season, especially late last season. Wilson is still a top-tier fantasy quarterback option, though, especially with his running ability.
