San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch has not ruled out the possibility of the 49ers re-signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick but did say the likelihood if it happening has dropped since the team has added QBs Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley this offseason.
Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick has not been linked to many teams this offseason, so he probably will have to wait before signing with a team. He will not have any fantasy value if he is a backup next season and would only be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he does start.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brian Hoyer said he won't be content being a backup quarterback, and he believes he will have a leg up in a quarterback competition because he is familiar with head coach Kyle Shanahan's system.
Fantasy Tip: At this point, Hoyer has to be considered the frontrunner to start for the 49ers next year, but he shouldn't be viewed as more than a low-end QB2.

Fantasy Tip: Hightower proved to be a serviceable back for the New Orleans Saints in his age-30 season in 2016, although he did more to anger Mark Ingram owners than he did on a consistent basis in fantasy. If he lands with the Niners, he would be the heavy favorite to be the direct backup to oft-injured Carlos Hyde.

The San Francisco 49ers are likely looking at positions other than quarterback with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft after signing QB Brian Hoyer and QB Matt Barkley, according to Bucky Brooks of NFL.com.
Fantasy Tip: If the 49ers do pass on one of the top quarterback prospects, it will likely mean Hoyer opens the year as the starter, but he would only be a low-end QB2 candidate.

The San Francisco 49ers will continue to look for quarterbacks this offseason despite signing Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley in free agency, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, who added he doesn't know whether the team will address the position in the free agency or the draft.
Fantasy Tip: This news hardly qualifies as a surprise, as neither Hoyer nor Barkley were signed to be the long-term answer. It does reduce the need for the 49ers to use the second pick of the draft next month to take a quarterback, although it certainly doesn't take them out of the market. Given the lack of a blue-chip passer in the draft, however, it appears the most likely scenario at the moment involves starting Hoyer in 2017 and hoping Kirk Cousins will sign with San Francisco next offseason.
