San Francisco 49ers news, rumors and injuriesWed, 22 May 2013 17:12:45 -0700 San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said the team isn't considering re-signing WR Randy Moss after learning that WR Michael Crabtree (Achilles') tore his Achilles' Wednesday, May 22. Harbaugh said the team is intrigued with the depth of young receivers they have on roster, and they are looking forward to them stepping up to the task. WR A.J. Jenkins, the team's 2012 first-round pick, will have a chance to make an impact in his second year. Jenkins has spent the offseason adding muscle and working with QB Colin Kaepernick. Fantasy Tip: Look out for Jenkins as a late-round pick this summer. With Crabtree out, it's possible he could become the team's No. 2 receiver behind Anquan Boldin if he beats out Mario Manningham. Kaepernick proved last year that he can make the receiving unit in San Fran valuable. Share: 49ers | Have high hopes for Ricardo Lockette Wed, 22 May 2013 15:44:47 -0700 San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh has high hopes for WR Ricardo Lockette this season. Fantasy Tip: With Michael Crabtree (Achilles') likely out for most, if not all, of the season, Lockette has a better shot at making an impact in San Fran. Still, he'll have a tough time seeing enough snaps to make a fantasy impact with Anquan Boldin, Mario Manningham, A.J. Jenkins and maybe even Quinton Patton likely in front of him in the pecking order. Share: 49ers | Coach does not expect Michael Crabtree to miss season Wed, 22 May 2013 14:37:14 -0700 San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said he does not think WR Michael Crabtree (Achilles') will miss the entire 2013 regular season. Fantasy Tip: If Crabtree does return this season, he likely would only be back for the final few games of the regular season. Crabtree should not be on the fantasy radar until he is close to returning and probably would not make much of an impact when he does return. Share: 49ers | Michael Crabtree undergoes surgery Wed, 22 May 2013 13:06:22 -0700 Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree (Achilles') has undergone surgery to repair his torn Achilles' tendon. Share: 49ers | Michael Crabtree could be out six months Wed, 22 May 2013 13:05:03 -0700 Updating a previous report, doctors believe San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree (Achilles') will miss six months because of his torn Achilles' tendon. Doctors have recommended that Crabtree undergo surgery as soon as possible. Fantasy Tip: There appears to be a chance that Crabtree could return near the end of the season or during the playoffs, but he probably would not be 100 percent when he returns. Owners should not worry about him until a possible return is close. Share: 49ers | Quinton Patton signed Wed, 22 May 2013 12:17:45 -0700 The San Francisco 49ers have signed fourth-round draft choice WR Quinton Patton. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Share: 49ers | Michael Crabtree suffers torn Achilles'Wed, 22 May 2013 11:15:17 -0700 San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree (Achilles') suffered a torn Achilles' tendon during organized team activities Tuesday, May 21, and will undergo what could be season-ending surgery. Fantasy Tip: There is a strong chance that this will be a lost year for Crabtree because of the major injury. Anquan Boldin will become the No. 1 wide receiver and will have his fantasy value increase. Vernon Davis should become more involved in the passing game to fill some of the void, which increases his value as a No. 1 fantasy tight end. Mario Manningham (knee), A.J. Jenkins and Quinton Patton were candidates to win the No. 3 wide receiver job but are now options for the No. 2 wide receiver job. Boldin should be considered a weak No. 2 fantasy option or a solid No. 3. Manningham, Jenkins and Patton could be options in the later rounds of drafts. Share: 49ers | Kyle Nelson claimed Wed, 22 May 2013 07:09:21 -0700 The San Francisco 49ers claimed LS Kyle Nelson (Chargers) off waivers. Share: 49ers | Trio worked together in offseason Tue, 21 May 2013 18:08:04 -0700 San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and WRs A.J. Jenkins and Ricardo Lockette lived together for two months in Atlanta during the offseason, working together at a nearby training facility. And since the opening of the team's offseason program, WR Anquan Boldin has served as a mentor, helping the two receivers on route running after practice. Share: 49ers | A.J. Jenkins adds muscle Tue, 21 May 2013 18:07:34 -0700 San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins focused this offseason on adding muscle and knowledge of the game. He bulked up to 196 pounds, which is four more than his listed weight. "If I get to 200 (pounds), I'll be good to go," Jenkins said. Share: 49ers | Two to compete for top OLB backup job Fri, 17 May 2013 12:33:25 -0700 San Francisco 49ers LBs Parys Haralson and Corey Lemonier are expected to compete to be the primary backup at outside linebacker. Haralson is better suited for the base 3-4 defensive alignment while Lemonier likely will be used in pass-rush situations. Share: 49ers | Cornellius Carradine expected to be ready for camp Fri, 17 May 2013 12:30:57 -0700 San Francisco 49ers DE Cornellius Carradine (knee) is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
