San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (shoulder) has received medical clearance to participate fully in training camp, according to a source. Kaepernick had a torn left labrum repaired this offseason in addition to surgery on his right thumb and left knee.
Fantasy Tip: Let the battle begin for the starting quarterback position in San Francisco. Neither Kaepernick nor Blaine Gabbert has played impressively enough in recent years to warrant starter consideration in fantasy leagues, though. At best, draft the 49ers starter as a bye-week replacement.

San Francisco 49ers LB Michael Wilhoite probably will enter training camp as the leading candidate for one of the inside linebacker jobs but will have to compete with LBs Gerald Hodges and Ray Ray Armstrong for the job. All three players could receive playing time during the season depending on the opponent.

San Francisco 49ers DE Tank Carradine likely will be used as a pass-rush specialist this season when the team is in their nickel package. There is a chance that he could be in the starting lineup because of LB Aaron Lynch's suspension.

Former San Francisco 49ers WR Jerry Rice praised QB Blaine Gabbert, who will be competing for the starting quarterback job with QB Colin Kaepernick in training camp. "I had an opportunity to meet him, and you can just tell the confidence. He feels he has a legitimate chance of being the starter. Then you got Colin Kaepernick, and I don't know if they're gonna be able to, you know, that offense of Chip Kelly because he likes to get over the ball, he likes constant movement and all of that," Rice said.
Fantasy Tip: It will be a very interesting development in training camp as to who comes out victorious in this QB battle under Chip Kelly's new high-octane offense. Whoever wins the job could be a QB2 sleeper with upside, but although Gabbert showed some poise at times in 2015, Kap's ceiling remains much higher for fantasy owners.

San Francisco 49ers Torrey Smith is one of just three receivers with more than 40 career receptions heading into the 2016 season. WRs Jerome Simpson (150) and Quinton Patton (56) are the others. Simpson and Patton will be in the mix to serve as the No. 2 receiver opposite Smith.
Fantasy Tip: Smith is your best bet for fantasy production in Frisco, and his health is imperative for the fantasy appeal of Blaine Gabbert/Colin Kaepernick and the success of the offense as a whole. Simpson and Patton are only likely to be rostered in fantasy leagues of 14 or more teams.

San Francisco OT Erik Pears was the primary right tackle in 2015, but it might be tough for him to hold onto the job this season. OT Trent Brown is likely to make a strong bid for the job. He started two games last season in his rookie season, and both he and Pears are likely to rotate during training camp and the preseason.

San Francisco 49ers OG Josh Garnett might be in line for significant playing time and could be a cornerstones for the offensive line. It's uncertain where Garnett fits in with plenty of veterans along the O-line, but he can play both guard and tackle.

San Francisco 49ers FB Bruce Miller is learning the nuances of the tight end position, but he has good hands and can also help out on special teams. He might be used the No. 3 tight end behind TEs Garrett Celek and Vance McDonald.
