San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington will have a chance to play in the slot in 2016, and Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews caught 16 touchdowns working mainly from the slot in the two seasons with Chip Kelly as his head coach.
Fantasy Tip: Ellington still has to secure a starting role, but he has the speed to be a problem in open space. Kelly’s system has made fantasy starts out of unheralded players in the past, so Ellington could be a useful addition in the later rounds, particularly in PPR leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Smelter has a chance to make in impact for the 49ers in what is a relatively shallow wide receiver corps. For now, though, he can be left on waivers in traditional leagues.

Fantasy Tip: It's apparent that San Francisco is content with the wide receivers they have, with Torrey Smith and Quinton Patton being the most promising of the bunch. Boldin could still rejoin the 49ers before the season starts, but it seems unlikely at this point. Smith and Patton should be viewed as a speculative WR3 and WR5, respectively. As for Boldin, he would be worth a low-end WR3 to high-end WR4 if he comes back to the 49ers.

San Francisco 49ers CB Jimmie Ward worked at cornerback with the first-team defense during organized team activities Tuesday, May 17. Ward moved to the slot corner position when the team used the nickel defense.

Fantasy Tip: Miller gives the 49ers versatility as he can play running back, fullback and tight end, but it looks like he'll primarily be in the tight end role this season. Garrett Celek and Vance McDonald at least should play ahead of Miller at tight end as long as they are healthy, so Miller's fantasy value is minimal right now.

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (shoulder, thumb, knee) is not falling behind QB Blaine Gabbert despite still rehabilitating his injuries, according to head coach Chip Kelly. "[Kaepernick] has a great grasp of what we're doing," Kelly said. "I'm really impressed by both [Gabbert] and him and their intelligence and being able to pick up what we're trying to do." Kelly said he hasn't set a timetable for when the starter will be announced.
Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick is still the most attractive fantasy option, but he may not start, obviously. Gabbert has disappointed throughout his career, but he'll have more intrigue in Kelly's offense. Neither are worthy of QB1 consideration, though.

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (shoulder) has made a good first impression with his work ethic to the new coaching staff, despite asking for a trade earlier in the offseason. He could wind up starting in Week 1. "Works his butt off in rehab, great with the coaches, learning the offense quickly, I like him a lot," one coach said.
Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick's fantasy value is the lowest it has been since he took over as starter a few seasons ago. He still has a cannon, and the fast-paced offense Chip Kelly brings could benefit him in getting the ball out. The weapons around him are still pretty questionable, and he's a midrange QB2 seeking a revival.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly said defensive coordinator Jim O'Neil's defense will be aggressive and will get after the quarterback. Kelly also said the defense will rely more on man-to-man schemes from the back-end of the defense. "We're going to get after the quarterback," Kelly said. "It's a quarterback-driven league and you have to disrupt the timing of the quarterback or you're going to get picked apart."

San Francisco 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert has impressed new head coach Chip Kelly with his athleticism in offseason workouts. "He's extremely athletic," Kelly began. "It's interesting, the three of them, if you look at Driskel, Blaine and Kap, they're all 6-4 plus, and all can run. All of them are at 4.6 (seconds in the 40-yard dash) or under 4.6, which is kind of rare to have three guys that can do the same thing. It's beneficial to you."
Fantasy Tip: Gabbert had flashes last year where he impressed as San Fran's starting quarterback. However, if he's healthy, Colin Kaepernick is fully expected to be the starting signal caller in 2016, leaving Gabbert as the primary backup or injury replacement. Gabbert's ceiling is a high-end backup if he's starting regularly.

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde was praised by new head coach Chip Kelly recently. "Carlos is a stud. He's been full-go since we started in the beginning of April," Kelly said. "Participated in everything. And he's as advertised. To have someone that size that is that agile, has that vision, it's really impressive to see him work every day. There have been no restrictions on him at all. He's full clear, 100 percent, and he's going. He's really good, we're really excited about him."
Fantasy Tip: Hyde is the clear-cut No. 1 running back in San Fran in Kelly's high-paced offense, and he should be a great fit for Kelly's stretch run plays. As long as Hyde is fully healthy, he should receive a healthy workload and has RB1 upside in 2016.

San Francisco 49ers DE Ronald Blair went through linebacker drills during his pre-draft workouts, but he is expected to play defensive line for San Francisco. Blair said it is possible that he plays every position along the defensive line.
