The San Francisco 49ers believe what they have heard from DT Ray McDonald about his domestic violence case, which is why they are allowing him to play. The team will release McDonald if he is lying to them.

"I must admit there's times when I look out of my peripheral vision and see them doing their workouts on the turf over there," head coach Jim Harbaugh said. "It looked like he was moving pretty good, so that's very positive."

San Francisco 49ers CB Chris Culliver could start in the team's Week 2 game, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh. Culliver would have to pass a "simulated contact test," which could take place Saturday, Sept. 13.

San Francisco 49ers C Marcus Martin (knee) has been ruled out for Week 2. OT Anthony Davis (hamstring), CB Tramaine Brock (toe) and CB Chris Culliver (concussion, neck) are listed as questionable, while P Andy Lee (knee) and DT Justin Smith (non-injury) are listed as probable. Lee and Smith fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 12, while Culliver was limited during practice. The other three players did not participate in practice.

San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York said he supports his team's decision to not punish DE Ray McDonald for his arrest for an alleged domestic violence incident until there is evidence that he should be punished. "I'm comfortable that my reputation is going to take shots throughout this process," York said. "But my character is, I will not punish somebody until we see evidence that it should be done or before an entire organization, an entire legal, police investigation, shows us something."
