Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Hunter's recovery from a torn ACL that cost him all of last season is going well, but he returns to a backfield that now features Carlos Hyde and Reggie Bush. At one time, Hunter looked like a potential heir to Frank Gore. Now, he is likely third in the pecking order for touches.

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush has expressed his desire to the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff to return punts this season. "I told the coaches I wanted to return punts again. And they were excited about it," Bush said. "We're still working at it, still chipping away. And we're looking forward to being and all-around great special teams."
Fantasy Tip: Whether the role as a punt returner will decrease Bush's role in the 49ers' backfield remains to be seen. He'll have more value in leagues that reward returns. He has RB3 potential in point-per-reception leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Hyde and Reggie Bush will form a formidable one-two punch in San Francisco this year, with Hyde likely receiving the bulk of the carries and Bush playing more of a passing down role. Hyde has RB2 potential while Bush will hold more value in point-per-reception leagues and could end up in RB3 territory.

San Francisco 49ers QB Dylan Thompson received praise from head coach Jim Tomsula Saturday, May 16. "He's got those … intangibles," Tomsula said. "Then you watch the tape [and] this guy can throw a football around. He spins it. We're excited about him. We really are."

Free-agent LB Lance Briggs (Bears) has drawn interest from the San Francisco 49ers this offseason, but the 49ers have no immediate plans to sign the veteran with LB NaVorro Bowman (knee) looking great in his recovery from a serious knee injury.

San Francisco 49ers LB NaVorro Bowman (knee) has made a strong return to the practice field in early workouts after missing all of last year with a knee injury. Bowman has been able to take part in all workouts from the team's first offseason practice. "Bowman's looking great," head coach Jim Tomsula said. "Bow looks great. I'd say we're more treating Bow like a vet than we're treating Bow like a post-injury guy right now." Bowman and LB Michael Wilhoite are projected to be the starting inside linebackers.

San Francisco 49ers DE Justin Smith could make a decision about his future by Friday, May 15, according to general manager Trent Baalke. Smith has been working out regularly this offseason but said he would be doing that even if he was not playing.

San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith's arrival should free up TE Vernon Davis to stretch the field, according to general manager Trent Baalke. "The one thing that really shows up is the way the field's opened up more with the speed or Torrey being able to stretch the outside," Baalke said. "And it really helps Vernon's game because now Vernon's game is (to) stretch the field a little bit, as well."
Fantasy Tip: Davis was a huge disappointment in 2014 and rates as a low-end TE1 with minimal upside.

Fantasy Tip: Hyde will get first crack at the carries and if fantasy drafts were today, he would be the first San Francisco back off the board. The San Francisco RB situation is crowded, though, and it could be similar to a New England situation from last year where one guy is a stud one week and non-existent the next. Be careful to have plenty of depth at the position if you draft 49ers.

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush has been an asset to QB Colin Kaepernick this offseason, according to general manager Trent Baalke. Baalke said Bush and Kaepernick have developed a rapport and that Bush's downfield speed gives Kaepernick more room to work with.
Fantasy Tip: Carlos Hyde is still expected to start in the 49ers' backfield, but Bush should be the primary passing-down running back. Head coach Jim Tomsula has already lauded Bush as an every-down back, so Bush should still see his fair share of playing time. Hyde is in the RB2 conversation while Bush shouldn't be considered more than a RB3. With Torrey Smith, Vernon Davis and Reggie Bush as weapons, not to mention his running ability, Kaepernick should be in the QB1 conversation heading into 2015.
