49ers | Vernon Davis has ankle bruise

Tue, 16 Sep 2014 20:48:19 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle) has a deep bone bruise but no structural damage to his ankle, and the team is optimistic he will be able to play in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: At $7,400, Davis has the fourth-highest salary among tight ends in FantasyScore, and shelling out that much money for a player facing a strong Arizona secondary at less than 100 percent is risky.

49ers | Tests negative for Vance McDonald

Tue, 16 Sep 2014 20:28:41 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald's (knee) MRI and X-ray results on his right knee came back negative Tuesday, Sept. 16, and he said the injury is just a day-to-day thing.

Fantasy Tip: McDonald doesn't normally have much fantasy value, but with Vernon Davis' status in doubt as he nurses a sore ankle, McDonald could be in line for an increased role if he is able to play in Week 3 and Davis sits. McDonald's $3,700 salary (7.4% of cap) is the minimum for the tight end position at FantasyScore so taking a flier on him would open up plenty of cap room to use elsewhere.
