Fantasy Tip: Smith should be able to play in Week 4 and probably will be a focal point in the passing game. Smith should have value in deeper leagues as a flex option, but he can probably be avoided in most leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check on McDonald's status later in the week to see if he has a chance to play in Week 4. Garrett Celek may start if McDonald is ruled out, but he is not a strong fantasy option.

Fantasy Tip: Smith is off to a decent start this season but has caught only eight passes on 20 targets. He should continue to be one of the top targets in the 49ers' passing game but probably should only be a flex option in most leagues.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald's (hip) status for Week 4 is uncertain because of a hip injury he suffered in Week 3. Head coach Chip Kelly said McDonald is not dealing with a long-term injury, but his status will not be known until later in the week.
Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if McDonald will have to miss time because of the injury. McDonald has been off to a solid start this season, but owners should have other options ready in case he is ruled out.

Fantasy Tip: Gabbert has been atrocious as a starter for much of his career, and he warrants no fantasy value for now.

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (shoulder) may reclaim his starting job once he's back to full health, according to head coach Chip Kelly. "I don't think he's 100 percent right now, so that's why he's our No. 2," Kelly said.
Fantasy Tip: Just like he did in the preseason, Blaine Gabbert hasn't exactly done anything to run away with the job and doesn't bring nearly the same level of athleticism to the table that a fully healthy Kaepernick does. While Kaepernick probably isn't going to be the long-term answer for Kelly either, his willingness to go deep may open things up for a running game that has generated a lot of production in garbage time. He'll be a low-end QB2 at best if/when he is named the starter.

Fantasy Tip: The fact Hyde had two scores against this defense is encouraging. Right about now Hyde is the only thing going right with this offense. It looks like Hyde is safe to use as an RB2 or RB3 option since he was able to run against Seattle.

Fantasy Tip: And the drum beat gets louder. The 49ers have a real problem on their hands. Keep Gabbert as the starter or bench him and go with Colin Kaepernick and the media maelstrom that is sure to follow? Right now, the best thing is to stay away from the Niners' passing game.

Fantasy Tip: McDonald should be reserved in all fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks.
