Fantasy Tip: Re-signing Gates will be a big plus for the Chargers, and he'll remain in TE1 territory if/when he is re-signed. The depth behind him will be a problem if San Diego can't re-sign at least one of Green, Johnson or Phillips.

Fantasy Tip: Gates had a 46-630-4 season while missing four games to suspension and one to injury. He's still a midrange TE1 option in fantasy.

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers considered retirement after the 2014 season when he dealt with rib and back injuries. He eventually signed a four-year contract extension last August, and Rivers now says he feels far better this offseason than last. "This year, physically, I'm great. Emotionally, it's been rough, but I'm excited -- I really am excited about who the new core is going to be. I'm excited to be part of that group. I'm waiting for it, kind of letting them take it. ... It's not going to be the buddies I came with; they're going to be gone," Rivers said.
Fantasy Tip: Rivers started the year out really hot but proceeded to fade in the second half, mainly because the Chargers receiving corps was decimated by injuries. He managed a career-best 4,792 yards and 29 touchdowns to 13 interceptions. A lack of a ground game led to a staggering 661 attempts in 2015. If the run game improves next year and his offensive line can protect, Rivers can remain a potent QB1 even at age 34.
