Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers LB Shawne Merriman (knee) will wear a brace on his knee in order to provide some stability. However, according to Dr. Neal ElAttrache, Merriman will still feel instability in games, especially dropping back into coverage.

Kevin Acee, of The San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers LB Shawne Merriman (knee) will still have to undergo reconstructive surgery on his torn posterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament at some point. The Chargers advised Merriman to undergo surgery after last season, but he declined because he did not want to sit out until October or November. He has already played five games in the past, sometimes limited, with both injuries.

Merriman is deciding among three main options. Merriman has identified the significant problem in his left knee as being a tear in the posterior cruciate ligament. The main issues with a PCL tear are pain, swelling and instability.
