"The way he performed this year speaks to how valuable he is to our team," Turner said. "From a coaching standpoint, I'd love to have him here. When you look at his production, his average per catch separates him from a lot of guys."

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers completed 11 of 19 passes for 190 yards, two touchdowns and an interception at the Pro Bowl Sunday, Jan. 29. One of his TD strikes went to Chargers teammate TE Antonio Gates in the second quarter. Rivers also hooked up with Miami Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall on a 29-yard strike in the second quarter.

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (foot) played in the Pro Bowl Sunday, Jan. 29, despite battling foot problems during the middle of the regular season. He looked good, too, posting three grabs for 67 yards and a 27-yard touchdown from Chargers teammate QB Philip Rivers in the second quarter.

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers said the team needs to cut down on the mistakes and play a little better but are not far off from a trip to the playoffs again. "A lot of times, you look at 8-8 or 9-7 and you get too caught up in what's wrong instead of, 'Let's just play a little better and fine-tune some things,' " Rivers said. "Because the difference in an 8-8 or a 9-7 team to that 11-5, 12-4 team is not a whole lot."

San Diego Chargers impending free-agent WR Vincent Jackson said that he would like to sign a long-term deal with the team. "I would like to stay in San Diego. Obviously, that's my home, that's where I was drafted," Jackson said. "I've got some good guys around me – Philip Rivers (Antonio) Gates, Ryan Mathews. It would be a great place for me to stay, so we'll see if that works out." Jackson, however, added he would rather not receive the franchise tag again.

Kaeding is ahead of schedule in his recovery, and he said last week that he expects to resume kicking field goals again late in January. Kaeding said he doesn't anticipate camp competition, but that's exactly what might happen with the two.
