Chargers | Travis Benjamin as fast as ever

Sun, 18 Jun 2017 18:21:45 -0700

Los Angeles Chargers WR Travis Benjamin's vertical speed is a "game changer" for the offense, according to head coach Anthony Lynn, and Lynn said he wants Benjamin to return punts this season.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin has the speed to take the top off the defense, but the Chargers' crowded receiving corps will make consistency tough to come by. His value will be tied to big plays, making him more appealing as a DFS flier than a standard league option.

Chargers | Mike Williams could be back for camp

Fri, 16 Jun 2017 18:44:16 -0700

Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams (back) said he has been logging mental reps while recovering from a back injury, and head coach Anthony Lynn said the hope is that Williams can return for the start of training camp.

Fantasy Tip: The back injury could make for a steeper learning curve for Williams, but he has the physical tools you look for in a No. 1 receiver. He is worth a look as a WR4 in redraft leagues, and he is a first-round prospect in rookie drafts.

Chargers | Philip Rivers not close to retiring

Wed, 14 Jun 2017 17:11:13 -0700

Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers said he believes he can play a few more seasons before he considers retirement.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers has thrown for at least 4,000 yards in eight of his last nine seasons and at least 30 touchdowns in three of the last four season. He did struggle with 21 interceptions in 2016 but should reduce that number this season. Rivers have a solid group of pass catchers to work with on offense and can be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Chargers | Mike Williams done for the spring

Tue, 06 Jun 2017 10:22:21 -0700

Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams (back) will be held out for the final two weeks of the offseason program as he continues to deal with a mild disc herniation in his lower back.

Fantasy Tip: Williams has been out since suffering the injury during the first practice of rookie minicamp, and there reportedly is no guarantee he'll be ready for the start of training camp either. While early June still gives him almost two months to heal, he is already a raw talent - as in he has a limited route tree - who could have used as much time as possible developing his game and trying to work his way up a crowded receiving corps. This development makes the rookie a risky WR4 consideration at best in early drafts.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin saw numbers drop in '16

Mon, 05 Jun 2017 21:48:17 -0700

Los Angeles Chargers WR Travis Benjamin saw his numbers drop across the board in 2016 in his first year with the club. In his final season in Cleveland in 2015, Benjamin registered 68 catches on 125 targets for 966 yards and five touchdowns, while playing in all 16 games. Last year, though, Benjamin managed to suit up in 14 games, en route to notching 47 receptions on 75 targets for 677 yards and four touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Even when No. 1 wide-out Keenan Allen went down in the beginning of the campaign, Benjamin still couldn't consistently post the big statistics that some owners were expecting, as injuries also contributed to his sometimes erratic play. With Allen set to return, not to mention the presence of emerging receiver Tyrell Williams and first-round draft pick Mike Williams, it doesn't seem likely Benjamin can be relied upon regularly in fantasy this season.
