Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (ankle, leg) suffered a severe high ankle sprain and fractured fibula in the Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills. A source said Sunday, Sept. 21, that season-ending surgery is likely.
Fantasy Tip: With Woodhead done, Donald Brown will see more touches going forward. If Ryan Mathews remains sidelined, too, Brown should see a bulk of the carries, would be a solid low-end RB2 or flex play in leagues of 12 or more teams. In FantasyScore, he is an intriguing pick, especially if the price is right, as he faces the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead was carted off in the Week 3 game in Buffalo, which was a pity for fantasy owners who were hoping for a bump with Ryan Mathews inactive. Donald Brown had a career-high 36 touches, mostly after Woodhead left. He is one to target if Woodhead misses time.

Fantasy Tip: With Ryan Mathews inactive, and Danny Woodhead getting carted off, Brown did the heavy lifting. He'll need to improved upon that 2.0 yards per carry mark to be effective for fantasy owners, however. Still, if he is getting starts in the backfield for a good team, he is worth a spot on fantasy rosters. He could be quite a steal in FantasyScore in Week 4 if he gets a start and has a mid-level salary, as the Bolts face the Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Woodhead probably will not return since he was carted off the field. Owners will need to wait until after the game to get a better idea on the severity of the injury.

Fantasy Tip: It does not appear like Woodhead will be able to return to the game. Donald Brown likely will get most of the work and could become the starter if Woodhead and Ryan Mathews miss more time.

Updating an immediate report, San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (groin) is expected to play his normal amount of snaps Sunday, Sept. 21, against the Buffalo Bills. The team is only dressing four receivers.
Fantasy Tip: This is good news, but the team could also be planning to run a lot in the rain. He is priced at $7,100 (14.2% of your cap) on FantasyScore this week.

Fantasy Tip: There is heavy rain in the forecast, and Allen's injury and the conditions could hamper his output in Week 3. He is priced at $7,100 (14.2% of your cap) on FantasyScore this week.

San Diego Chargers RB Donald Brown will not return in kicks in Week 3 because the team wants to keep him fresh for his expanded role in the backfield. RB Branden Oliver will return kicks in Brown's place.
Fantasy Tip: Brown was signed in the offseason in case Ryan Matthews suffered an injury, and relieving him of return duties reaffirms the fact that Brown will have a big role in the offense while Matthews is out. His $4,600 salary (9.2% of cap) at FantasyScore makes him very affordable, but with the Chargers facing a Bills defense that has been beaten up by the pass and stout against the run, Brown could struggle to make a significant impact in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Gates ($6,600; 13.2% of your cap) is a decent play on FantasyScore this week. There is a lot of rain in the forecast in Buffalo Sunday, Sept. 21. This bodes well for Gates because the offense will likely run the ball a lot and use short-to-intermediate passing routes. Gates could be targeted heavily in the poor weather.

San Diego Chargers LB Melvin Ingram (hip, hamstring) was placed on the Reserve/Injured Designated to Return list. Ingram underwent an MRI on his hip Thursday, Sept. 18, but it's unclear how the injury occurred. He'll be out until at least Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: Even with the questionable tag, Allen is likely to play in Week 3. Double check his status on Sunday before you spend $7,100 (14.20% of cap) in FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: With Mathews ruled out, Donald Brown and Danny Woodhead will get most of the work in Week 3, and should be considered in FantasyScore.

San Diego Chargers LB Melvin Ingram (hamstring) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 19, and has been ruled out for Week 3. S Jahleel Addae (hamstring) fully participated in practice and is questionable. LB Jeremiah Attaochu (hamstring) did not participate in practice and is questionable. CB Chris Davis (ankle), CB Brandon Flowers (groin), DE Corey Liuget (ankle), C Richard Ohrnberger (back) and OG Johnnie Troutman (back) all fully participated in practice and are probable.
