Fantasy Tip: Green has just seven targets in four games, and he wasn't targeted at all last weekend. Despite his disappointing start and the presence of Antonio Gates, the New York Jets have been a welcome mat for opposing tight ends this year. Consider Green a deep tight end sleeper at FantasyScore.

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews (knee) said he's feeling good, but he has no timetable for when he might return. He wants to make sure he's fully healthy before returning to action. "I'm feeling good," Mathews said. "I'm taking it one day at a time, doing my best to get my full workouts in and do the best that I can to get my knee right."
Fantasy Tip: Mathews didn't practice again Wednesday, and he won't be available to you at FantasyScore this weekend. Without Mathews, the Chargers' running game has been lackluster. Both Donald Brown and Branden Oliver are weak flex options.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd should be fine for Week 5 against the New York Jets, and he's a good player to put in your FantasyScore lineup for $6,300 (12.6% of cap).

San Diego Chargers LB Jeremiah Attaochu (hamstring), C Richard Ohrnberger (back), LB Manti Te'o (foot), LB Reggie Walker (ankle) and CB Shareece Wright (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 1. LB Donald Butler (shoulder), LB Dwight Freeney (knee), TE David Johnson (shoulder), LB Jarret Johnson (shoulder), DT Corey Liuget (concussion) and CB Jason Verrett (hamstring) were limited, while LB Cordarro Law (ankle) practiced in full.

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Matthews (knee) said that he is eager to return from the medial collateral ligament sprain that has sidelined him the last two games but added that he wants to be fully recovered when he returns. "As a running back, you want to make sure that you're fully healthy," Mathews said Tuesday, Sept. 30. "You don't want to go in there when you're first getting back and you have something happen to it again because it's not fully healed, with people going at your legs and everything. So you want to make sure that you're healed."
Fantasy Tip: Donald Brown remains the lead back while Matthews is sidelined, but he is averaging just 2.0 yards per carry. Brown will take up 10.6% of the cap ($5,300) at FantasyScore in Week 5 and should be avoided as the Chargers take on a Jets defense allowing the fewest rushing yards in the league.

The San Diego Chargers ran just 20 times for 42 yards in Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars for a measly 2.1 yards per carry. After four games this year, they are the second-worst running team in the league, and they host the New York Jets, the stingiest run defense, in Week 5. "The big thing is the running game. It's nowhere where it needs to be," head coach Mike McCoy said. "There's no excuses about it. We're not running it well enough. We're not blocking well enough. Whatever we're running isn't working. We've got to figure out as coaches and players how to get it done." RB Ryan Mathews (knee) is out indefinitely and RB Danny Woodhead (leg) is out for the season.
Fantasy Tip: Against a weak Jags defense, Brown was a popular play at FantasyScore last week, and he disappointed. Both Brown ($5,300; 10.6% of cap) and Branden Oliver ($3,000) aren't great options against the strong defensive front of the Jets.

San Diego Chargers RB Donald Brown and RB Branden Oliver combined for 42 yards on 29 carries in Week 4, and although head coach Mike McCoy bashed the running game during a press conference Monday, Sept. 29, he also said that the team is committed to improving it. "We're going to be forced to run it more down the road, and we're going to run the football," McCoy said. "So we'll be successful, we just have to do a better job doing it. You've got to have balance without a doubt."
Fantasy Tip: While the Chargers aren't going to abandon the run game, but until things begin to turn around, Brown and Oliver probably aren't worth gambling on at FantasyScore, especially in Week 5 against the Jets and their top-ranked run defense.

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers posted a 130.0 passer rating courtesy of his 377 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions on 29 of 39 passing Sunday, Sept. 29. Rivers eclipsed the 120.0 barrier for the third consecutive game, which ties the longest stretch of his career. It also marked the third straight game he completed more than 72 percent of his passes, which is one shy of his personal best, and he eclipsed 300 yards for the 35th time in his career. Rivers set a new team record by throwing a touchdown pass in his 24th straight game.
Fantasy Tip: It was Jacksonville the Chargers faced on Sunday, but there is no question Rivers is red-hot at the moment and should be in your lineup. He will have a halo effect on players like WR Eddie Royal and TE Antonio Gates.

San Diego Chargers CB Shareece Wright (knee) left the game Sunday, Sept. 28, against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a knee injury. The team believed Wright sprained his MCL and hoped no ACL damage was done. He will have an MRI Monday, Sept. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Gates should have a solid role in the passing game this week. Owners can consider using Gates on FantasyScore at $6,500 if they have not decided on a tight end yet.

Fantasy Tip: Allen costs $7,300 on FantasyScore this week and could be a good option for owners to use against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Green will be limited during the game, but he should have a role in the passing game. Green costs $4,800 on FantasyScore, and could be a solid option if owners are willing to take a risk.

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (hamstring) has been targeted seven times this season, and five of those targets came in Week 3. Meanwhile, TE Antonio Gates saw just one target in Week 3 after being targeted a combined 17 times in the team's first two games.
Fantasy Tip: After Gates lit up the Seahawks for three scores in Week 2, the Bills responded by paying extra attention to the veteran in Week 3. If opposing defenses continue to focus on Gates, Green could continue to be the main beneficiary. A hamstring injury could force Green to miss San Diego's Week 4 matchup against Jacksonville, but when healthy, he could provide more production than Gates for a cheaper price at FantasyScore.
