Chargers | Philip Rivers not practicing

Wed, 17 Dec 2014 11:31:31 -0800

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (undisclosed) was not present during practice Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known why Rivers is not at practice, so owners should monitor the situation. Rivers costs $6,600 on FantasyScore but may not be the best option since he will be facing a tough San Francisco 49ers defense.

Chargers | Ryan Mathews sitting out

Wed, 17 Dec 2014 11:30:38 -0800

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews (ankle) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation to see if Mathews has a chance to play in Week 16. Branden Oliver and Donald Brown likely would share work again if Mathews is not able to play. Both running backs costs $3,000 on FantasyScore and could be flex options for owners.

Chargers | Philip Rivers good to go

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 13:37:17 -0800

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (back, chest) said he's in good health and ready to play against the San Francisco 49ers this week.

Fantasy Tip: The 49ers have been one of the better defenses against quarterbacks this year, so getting Rivers at $6,600 on FantasyScore might be a little much, especially considering he won't have his top receiver, Keenan Allen, to throw to this week.

Chargers | Philip Rivers struggling of late

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 13:30:06 -0800

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers has completed 66.8 percent of his passes for 1,426 yards, seven touchdowns and eight interceptions for a passer rating of 81.2 in the last six games. In the first eight weeks of the season, he had a 68.3 completion rate for 2,213 yards, 20 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Rivers said the team has been playing much better defenses lately, and his receivers haven't gotten separation as often. He also hasn't moved around well in the pocket with chest and back injuries taking their toll.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers could use a break, and he'll likely get one while facing the reeling San Francisco 49ers this weekend. Although SF has held their own pretty much all year against opposing QBs, Rivers should have more room to throw than in recent weeks. However, losing his favorite receiver, Keenan Allen, will keep his ceiling limited for FantasyScore owners. Rivers costs $6,600 in Week 16.

Chargers | Seyi Ajirotutu to play more?

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 13:28:14 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Seyi Ajirotutu played in a season-high 41 offensive snaps out of 66 snaps in Week 15 after WR Keenan Allen (collarbone, ankle) was injured.

Fantasy Tip: With Allen likely done for the rest of the year, Ajirotutu ($3,000) should continue to see more snaps, but he's not the one you should want to roster at FantasyScore this weekend against the San Francisco 49ers. Eddie Royal ($3,100) and Malcom Floyd ($4,300) are much better under-the-radar value plays this weekend.

Chargers | Keenan Allen could be placed on IR

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 13:03:24 -0800

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (collarbone) could be placed on Reserve/Injured if the team is eliminated from playoff contention. Allen will not play this week against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Malcom Floyd ($4,300, 8.6%) and Eddie Royal ($3,100, 6.2%) could see more targets this week, although Antonio Gates ($6.800, 13.6%) will probably be the main beneficiary in the passing game and is worth considering on FantasyScore.

Chargers | Ryan Mathews doesn't practice

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 11:38:14 -0800

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews (ankle) did not practice Tuesday, Dec. 16.

Fantasy Tip: If Mathews is unable to play again, Branden Oliver and Donald Brown are sneaky starting options on FantasyScore, especially considering how involved they were in the passing game last week.

Chargers | Keenan Allen has broken collarbone

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 11:32:30 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (collarbone) suffered a broken collarbone in Week 15 and is not expected to play this week. Surgery is not planned at this point and he is not expected to go on Reserve/Injured.

Fantasy Tip: The injury to Allen gives added value to Malcom Floyd ($4,300) this week, though he does have a tough matchup facing the San Francisco 49ers, who are one of four teams to allow fewer than 2,000 yards to wide receivers this year.

Mon, 15 Dec 2014 10:55:30 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (ankle) is having his ankle injury evaluated Monday, Dec. 15, according to head coach Mike McCoy.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to wait to see if Allen will be able to do anything during practice this week before deciding on their Week 16 lineups. Allen would have a tough matchup against the San Francisco 49ers if he is able to play, so owners may want to look for another option.

Sun, 14 Dec 2014 17:02:57 -0800

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (ankle) was in a protective boot after the Week 15 game against the Denver Broncos.
