John Harris, of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, reports Pittsburgh Steelers CB Ike Taylor said the team's disappointing performance after their last Super Bowl victory will help them not take the regular season for granted this year. "We remember how that felt and (are) trying not to let it happen again,'' Taylor said. "We have enough players on the team who went through it and have it in the back of their heads what it's going to take to have success."

John Harris, of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, reports Pittsburgh Steelers CB William Gay said he is focused on being in peak condition for the start of training camp. The team's starting left cornerback job is Gay's to lose, as he will replace CB Bryant McFadden, who signed as a free agent with the Arizona Cardinals. Gay has also moved ahead of CB Deshea Townsend on the depth chart. "Coach told us physical conditioning is what he's looking for when we come back (for training camp)," Gay said. "I want to be in top-notch shape, so I can go through the grind of the season."

Updating a previous report, John Harris, of Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, reports Pittsburgh Steelers WR Santonio Holmes said he believes the weight he has added this offseason will help him get off jams from cornerbacks better and get separation. "I really need that strength in the upper body because I know I'm going to start getting more and more Cover-2 this season. I'm going to face a lot more bigger corners this year than I did in previous years, so I've got to get off those jams and separate myself from those guys," Holmes said.

Roethlisberger was able to stretch with his teammates before practice and work with the first-team offense. Neither head coach Mike Tomlin nor Roethlisberger would comment on what happened to the quarterback's knee.

"He's looking good," said DT Casey Hampton. "From what I've seen he does a special job using his hands. Most guys who come in from college are used to being quicker than everybody, and used to running through gaps or ripping through guys. I don't know if it's been (line coach John Mitchell) Mitch getting on him, or if he's been coached like that, but he can use his hands and keep guys off of him."

Harrison said he would have put the dog down after a 10-day quarantine. A number of people responded to the planned euthanization by saying there were organizations that might take the dog.

So apparently, I'm a lower man on the totem pole than I thought."
