Updating previous reports, John Harris, of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, reports Pittsburgh Steelers SS Troy Polamalu (hamstring) did not work with the first-string defense during practice Tuesday, Aug. 19. He did some work in 7-on-7 drills and some in 11-on-11 drills, too. He said he felt good, but he does not want to rush it. "That wouldn't be smart," he noted.

He has not done it since his rookie season in 2006. Because he has developed so well as a wide receiver, head coach Mike Tomlin feels comfortable letting him return punts.

Tomlin said, "We'll make that decision when we have to. Right now we're just evaluating this thing day to day. There are so many things that can happen between now and when we have to make that roster cut that it's a pure waste of time to speculate on those at this point. People could get hurt, so forth and so on."
