Steelers | Big Ben unsure about playing past 2017

Fri, 28 Jul 2017 12:01:57 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has yet to commit to playing beyond this season. "I feel if I commit to anything past right now, I'm cheating now. I'm looking forward to this season, and I'm going to give it everything I have and afterwards we'll sit down and do some (thinking) again," Roethlisberger said.

Fantasy Tip: The Steelers addressed life post-Roethlisberger by spending a fourth-round pick on Josh Dobbs this spring. With Big Ben talking about retirement already this summer and his wife encouraging him to do so, there's a decent chance he may be playing his final season. For fantasy purposes, he is a highly inconsistent low-end QB1 with severe home-road splits over the last few seasons.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell to face consequences?

Fri, 28 Jul 2017 07:48:57 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell will face consequences for not signing his franchise tag tender and missing training camp, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. "There is no question we are a group that values the team-building process," Tomlin said Thursday, July 27. "And doing it in this setting, so yes, there is value, and yes, there are consequences for not being here. That's the reality of it." Pittsburgh cannot fine Bell for his absence because he has not signed his tender. "They're untold as we sit here," Tomlin said, when asked about the nature of those consequences.

Fantasy Tip: ... Uh, sure thing. If that isn't the ultimate coach speak, what is? Tomlin is simply trying to put public pressure on his star running back to sign the franchise tender and get onto the field with his teammates. Our best guess is that the issue will be resolved sooner than later. Regardless, unless it lingers into the regular season, Bell is barely affected by missing camp and is a top-three pick in all formats.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell not reporting to camp

Thu, 27 Jul 2017 13:20:13 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell will not report to training camp as he has not signed his franchise tender.

Fantasy Tip: As has been well documented, Bell wants to be paid. Quite frankly, he deserves to be paid. He's arguably the best running back in the NFL when he's healthy or not suspended. Assuming Bell eventually shows up and doesn't hold out into the season, draft him with one of the first three picks, especially in PPR formats.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant not yet reinstated

Thu, 27 Jul 2017 13:12:21 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant is still in the process of being fully reinstated into the NFL. He is in the first stages of that process but is not officially reinstated, according to general manager Kevin Colbert. Until then, Bryant is not permitted to practice with the team or play in any games. He is allowed to participate in off-field team activities, however.

Fantasy Tip: This puts a little wrinkle into the Steelers' passing game, but Bryant is expected to be fully reinstated. If that happens before the season starts then he has WR2 upside. If it doesn't, then rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster suddenly looks more appealing as a sleeper.

Steelers | Sammie Coates to miss start of camp

Tue, 25 Jul 2017 20:18:43 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Sammie Coates (knee) underwent a knee scope last week and will miss the start of training camp, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Coates should be ready for the Steelers' dress rehearsal in the third week of the preseason, but the time he'll miss figures to eliminate whatever chance he had to contribute early in the season behind Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant. Coates can be ignored in fantasy drafts.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell a workhorse in 2016

Sat, 22 Jul 2017 09:27:18 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell was suspended for the first three games of the 2016 season, but once he returned, he received 85.6 percent of the team's carries and 21.6 percent of the team's targets over the final 13 games of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Needless to say, that kind of workload is highly unusual for a running back in today's game and does not figure to be repeated anytime soon. Assuming Ben Roethlisberger, Martavis Bryant and Antonio Brown all stay healthy for the bulk of this season, expect the aforementioned percentages to dip into the 70- and 15-percent ranges, respectively. That still plenty of work to keep Bell in the conversation among the top three picks of any fantasy draft.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell will play in Week 1

Thu, 20 Jul 2017 18:15:18 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell hasn't committed to reporting to training camp on time, but he plans to play in every regular season game.

Fantasy Tip: Bell could skip some of camp as he lobbies for a lucrative long-term extension, but with no plans to take a holdout into the regular season, he remains a candidate for the No. 1 overall pick in all formats.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell looking to be paid like RB, WR

Wed, 19 Jul 2017 17:48:09 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell said he is looking for a deal that will pay him like a No. 1 running back plus a No. 2 wide receiver, according to NFL Network analyst Ike Taylor.

Fantasy Tip: Bell finished fifth in the NFL with his 1,268 rushing yards in 2016, and his 75 receptions ranked second on the team. He will remain with the Steelers for at least one more season and should be a No. 1 running back in all fantasy leagues as long as he joins the team before Week 1.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell had big offer

Tue, 18 Jul 2017 11:54:28 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell was given an offer that would have averaged $12 million per year. He would have earned $30 million over the first two years and $42 million over three years, according to sources. The franchise tag he will play under in 2017 is worth $12.1 million.

Fantasy Tip: Bell apparently wants more over the next several years of his career. He deserves it as arguably the best running back in the NFL. He does have a history of suspensions, but he remains a No. 1 overall pick candidate.
