Pittsburgh Steelers news, rumors and injuries

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) was able to jog off the practice field Thursday, Oct. 8, a sign that he's making good progress from the sprained left medial collateral ligament and bone bruise in his knee. Roethlisberger will not be able to play in Week 5 against the San Diego Chargers. He hasn't had any setbacks since suffering the injury 11 days ago, though. Roethlisberger said doctors are pleased with his progress but there remains no timetable for his return, and he's week-to-week.
Fantasy Tip: Continue to stash Big Ben in all traditional leagues. Michael Vick ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) will start again against the Chargers, and he could be a sleeper option on FantasyScore if you're feeling bold or want to save money at the position.

Fantasy Tip: Wheaton's ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) injury is believed to be minor, so he should be able to play in Week 5 Monday night against the San Diego Chargers. He hasn't caught more than two passes in any week since the opener (three catches) and might see even less targets with Martavis Bryant coming back. Look elsewhere on FantasyScore.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) and S Ross Ventrone (hamstring) did not practice Thursday, Oct. 8. CB Cortez Allen (knee), DT Daniel McCullers (knee), LB Ryan Shazier (shoulder) and TE Matt Spaeth (hand) practiced in full.

Fantasy Tip: The reason for Bryant's absence is unclear, but this is his first week of eligibility in 2015 after serving a four-game suspension. That being said, he won't have Ben Roethlisberger throwing to him and he may be a little rusty from a four-week hiatus. His asking price on FantasyScore of $5,700 (11.4% of cap) may be too high for his first week back.

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown said the timing with QB Michael Vick was off last week as he filled in for QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee). "I think (Mike Vick's passes) just come out a little bit later than Ben's," Brown said. "I don't think Mike Vick has yet adjusted to the timing of how we run things. His balls come out later in the routes, at the top of your route. You just have to get the timing down and make sure we're on the same page."
Fantasy Tip: It was evident in last Thursday's game that Vick ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) wasn't on the same page as his receivers, and you have to downgrade all of the players in the aerial game for Pittsburgh with Big Ben out. Brown ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) remains a must-start in traditional fantasy leagues, but you should certainly be hesitant to pay up for him on FantasyScore as long as Vick is running the show.

Fantasy Tip: Wheaton ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) hasn't been much of a factor this season and isn't a good play on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Wheaton will receive a little extra rest since the team is not playing the San Diego Chargers until Monday, Oct. 12. Owners should monitor his practice participation during the week to see if he is in danger of missing the game. Wheaton has posted decent numbers, but owners may be able to find better options to use.

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant said he does not expect to be suspended again after he spent three weeks at a substance abuse recovery program. "My issues are behind me and now I am going to move forward with my career and be a better role model for the kids and continue to work. I really learned a lot about myself and how to keep myself out of certain situations that will get me in trouble," Bryant said.
Fantasy Tip: Bryant should have a big role in the passing game moving forward and will be a solid starting option because of his ability to catch touchdowns. Bryant's value may be slightly lower while Michael Vick is the starting quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) doesn't have the kind of upside with Michael Vick at the helm as he would with Ben Roethlisberger (knee). He'll be a flyer worth consideration on FantasyScore, but it's better to wait a week and see where he fits in the offense.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) made good progress in his recovery this week and appears to have a good chance to return in four weeks. Roethlisberger is off crutches and is moving around well.
Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) likely will miss the next three games but may return faster than some point think. Michael Vick ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) will start while Roethlisberger is out but is not a great fantasy option.

Fantasy Tip: Those who have Scobee on their roster can officially release him. Boswell might be worth a pickup if a team is struggling at the kicker position.

Fantasy Tip: Thursday night's miscues may have cost Josh Scobee his job. Let this situation play out before starting either Scobee or Boswell.

Fantasy Tip: The Steelers may be considering a change at kicker after Josh Scobee missed two field goals in Week 4. Forbath has had success in the NFL in the past and could be a fantasy option down the road if he joins the Steelers.
