Eagles | Darren Sproles could be matchup problem for defenses

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 20:03:39 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles' ability to win one-on-one matchups in space is what head coach Chip Kelly plans to exploit this season. Kelly said opposing defenses played a lot of man-to-man coverage against his offense last year, and his goal was to find a way to exploit the coverage this year.

Fantasy Tip: Sproles has done his best work in the passing game the last couple seasons, and that shouldn't change this year. Consider him a low-end RB3 in PPR leagues.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy's workload won't be lightened

Thu, 17 Jul 2014 09:24:51 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy is unlikely to be in line for a smaller workload this year after leading the league in carries (314) and touches (366) last year. There were no signs that McCoy's production suffered because of his heavy workload in 2013, and he often mentions that his running style helps him take fewer big hits.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the presence of Darren Sproles in the backfield, McCoy is one of the most talented all-around running backs in the NFL. He should be considered a top-three fantasy running back in this high-paced offense.

Eagles | Three RBs to battle for spot

Thu, 17 Jul 2014 09:22:36 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RBs Matthew Tucker, Henry Josey and David Fluellen will battle it out in training camp and the preseason for the fourth running back spot. Tucker earned praise from head coach Chip Kelly earlier in the offseason. The Eagles are more likely to keep four running backs on roster this year given that RB Darren Sproles is 31 years old.

Eagles | Insist Darren Sproles is a running back

Thu, 17 Jul 2014 09:20:28 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles is a running back and not a wide receiver, the team continues to emphasize. The team's brass has bristled at the notion that Sproles will only help in the passing game. However, Sproles averaged 3.5 and 3.7 rushing attempts per game the last two years and caught 146 passes during that span, meaning he's likely to be a much bigger factor in the passing game in head coach Chip Kelly's offense.

Fantasy Tip: While Sproles could be used at times to spell McCoy in the backfield, we fully expect him to be far more effective in the passing game once again as a way to account for the loss of DeSean Jackson. As always, Sproles will be much more valuable in PPR leagues in 2014.

"Sproles has the quickest feet I've ever seen out of any player," McCoy said. "He'll help us out tremendously. I think the best thing about him, what he brings to this team is not only leadership and experience, but also just another big playmaker on the team."

Eagles | Chris Polk in line for more carries

Mon, 14 Jul 2014 19:24:08 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Chris Polk should serve as RB LeSean McCoy's primary backup this year with RB Darren Sproles maintaining a secondary role in the offense, according to's Joe Kaiser.

Fantasy Tip: With Bryce Brown being traded to the Buffalo Bills in the offseason, an injury to McCoy would mean a serious workload for Polk. He is worth considering as a handcuff if you draft McCoy.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews receives praise

Mon, 14 Jul 2014 12:12:05 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles rookie WR Jordan Matthews was recently praised by wide receivers coach Bob Bicknell, who said Matthews has looked very good, is physical and has a good feel for what he wants to do.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews has built a lot of hype this offseason. He still figures to be the team's No. 3 wide receiver behind Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin. Head coach Chip Kelly said he expects Matthews to be their primary slot receiver. It's best not to get ahead of ourselves with Matthews at this point. Consider him a WR4 with WR3 upside in standard leagues.
