Eagles | Brent Celek could be stuck blocking a lot

Tue, 08 Jul 2014 17:14:43 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles TE Brent Celek will likely spend more time blocking than running routes this year, according to Marcus Hayes of With OT Dennis Kelly (back) working his way back from an injury and OT Lane Johnson being suspended the first four games, Celek is more valuable to the team as a blocker.

Fantasy Tip: While Celek's blocking ability is an asset for the Eagles, it doesn't help his fantasy value one bit. In fact, Celek's heavy blocking responsibilities make Zach Ertz the Eagles' tight end to target in fantasy leagues.

Eagles | Nick Foles focusing on improving

Tue, 08 Jul 2014 14:16:17 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles recently said his goals for this season include continuing to move better in the pocket, to be more efficient and to stay tight. He added that he wants to be smart with the ball and find his checkdowns early. Foles admitted improvement is "an everyday thing, but so far, we're looking good."

Fantasy Tip: Despite losing DeSean Jackson, the Eagles should still be one of the most prolific offenses in the league under head coach Chip Kelly. Foles averaged 22.5 fantasy points per game last season, which would have put him in QB5-QB6 territory for a full 16 game season. Consider him a QB1 in the Eagles' potent offense.

Eagles | Marcus Smith could make quick impact

Mon, 07 Jul 2014 20:41:18 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Billy Davis believes LB Marcus Smith can make an early impact because he is already familiar with the team's defense. "Marcus has shown to do it in college," Davis told "That's one of the biggest things that attracted us to Marcus. The defense he ran at Louisville is very, very similar. … Charlie Strong ran very similar to what we asked him to do here. So that was why it made such a nice fit for us."

Thu, 03 Jul 2014 12:41:57 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles DL Alejandro Villanueva's athleticism and physical skills were praised by defensive line coach Jerry Azzinaro. Azzinaro also said, "He has great character: his toughness, his ability to perform under pressure, those kinds of things are well-documented. So what we're going to try to do is see if we can make him into a four-technique." Villanueva played multiple positions in college but is competing against DEs Fletcher Cox, Vinny Curry, Cedric Thornton and Taylor Hart for playing time on the defensive line.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy praises Nick Foles

Thu, 03 Jul 2014 12:21:26 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy praised QB Nick Foles, saying this is the year Foles has a great season. "Nick, he wants to play, he wants to get better," McCoy said. "He's playing lights-out even in camp, but he still wants to be at a higher level. He's at that peak where people know him like, 'Man, this Foles, is he that good?' Because you see the stats, you see the numbers. I think this is the year he blows 'em out like, 'Yeah, I'm Nick Foles. I'm Philadelphia's quarterback. I'm the guy.' And this is the year he blows it away."

Fantasy Tip: Foles surprised everyone and had a fantastic season in 2013, but losing his best wide receiver in DeSean Jackson may be a lot to overcome in 2014. Temper your expectations with Foles.

Eagles | Nick Foles had most yards per attempt

Thu, 03 Jul 2014 08:34:29 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles led all of quarterbacks last year with 9.1 yards per attempt in the team's quick offense, and he also led the league with a passer rating of 119.2. Foles had a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 27:2.

Fantasy Tip: Foles burst onto the scene unexpectedly and had a magical season in 2013, and Chip Kelly's up-tempo offense meshed perfectly with Foles' strong arm. Unfortunately, he'll lose his most trusted target in DeSean Jackson. Expecting a repeat might be asking a lot. Foles will have some great games, but we're hesitant to stamp him as an elite QB1 this quickly.

Fantasy Tip: It has been rumored that Matthews will assume the slot position with Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin playing outside. Matthews is one of the more intriguing rookies for fantasy this year. He should be drafted as a WR4/WR5 with WR3 upside.
