Raiders | Unclear how carries will be divided

Mon, 14 Jul 2014 20:05:33 -0700

Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden and RB Maurice Jones-Drew could struggle while splitting carries this season, according to ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez. Gutierrez noted that both backs have traditionally performed better later in games, and splitting carries could prevent both backs from finding a rhythm.

Fantasy Tip: It will be interesting to see how the carries will ultimately be divided between McFadden and Jones-Drew, and it could end up being the unfortunate situation where the lead-back role changes hands on a weekly basis. Both players are backup options at the RB spot for fantasy purposes.

Raiders | Matt Schaub learning, getting better

Mon, 14 Jul 2014 13:12:54 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub is doing what it takes to get better, according to CB Charles Woodson. Woodson said Schaub has been talking with defensive coordinator Jason Tarver after practice, which tells Woodson that Schaub knows how to improve. Woodson added that the team expects big things from him this season.

Fantasy Tip: It's great that Schaub is working hard to improve, but he's still not a reliable fantasy quarterback, especially after what he showed us last season. He's too risky to draft as a starter, so draft him as a backup if you must draft him.

Thu, 10 Jul 2014 18:34:04 -0700

Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson shares an agent with Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie. The connection could make Oakland a possible landing spot for the disgruntled receiver, according to Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Tip: Moving to Oakland would be a slight fantasy improvement for the WR2.

Raiders | Plan to run it often

Tue, 08 Jul 2014 07:56:12 -0700

Oakland Raiders OT Donald Penn said the team plans to run the ball often in 2014. "We're gonna run the ball, run the ball, then run it again, until the defense stops us," Penn said.

Fantasy Tip: Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew should have ample opportunities to run the ball. However, they're going to need an effective passing game to keep eight defenders out of the box limiting their daylight. The winner of the lion's share of carries should be an RB3 with the second back and Latavius Murray as flex options.

Raiders | David Ausberry impressed during offseason workouts

Mon, 30 Jun 2014 14:11:10 -0700

Oakland Raiders TE David Ausberry was the leading tight end in the offseason workouts, according to ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez. Ausberry is fully recovered from the shoulder injury, which cost him the 2013 season, and he will compete with TE Mychal Rivera for targets.

Fantasy Tip: At best, Ausberry and Rivera are late-round fliers as a TE2. Unless one of them separates themselves from the other in training camp, they should go undrafted in standard leagues.

Raiders | Khalil Mack drawing praise

Mon, 30 Jun 2014 13:44:26 -0700

Oakland Raiders LB Khalil Mack's athleticism is drawing praise from DT Pat Sims. Sims also noted Mack can play almost any position in the front seven.

Fantasy Tip: Mack will carry plenty of hype in IDP drafts, and he's likely to have some low-level IDP value in his first year, but you shouldn't expect a ton of production right away.

Raiders | Could baseball deal signal end of Raiders in Oakland?

Thu, 26 Jun 2014 23:17:55 -0700

The 10-year deal signed by the Oakland Athletics and O.co Coliseum is triggering speculation the Oakland Raiders may look elsewhere. The Athletics baseball team has the right to possibly build a new park on that site, and Raiders owner Mark Davis wants a stadium without a baseball infield. With the A's intending to stay at the stadium for another 10 years and hoping for a new building at the same location, the thinking is Davis may start searching for other cities.
