Mon, 25 Jul 2016 09:58:23 -0700

Oakland Raiders LB Aldon Smith will be investigated by the NFL to see if he violated the protocols required of a suspended player seeking reinstatement to the league after his violation of the substance-abuse policy, according to a league source. An online video circulated that shows an unidentified man and woman talking about a hand-rolled cigarette. Smith is currently serving a year-long suspension and will be eligible to apply for reinstatement in September.

Raiders | Relaxed attitude helping Amari Cooper

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 20:16:01 -0700

Oakland Raiders WR Amari Cooper has appeared more relaxed this season, and retired WR Jerry Rice said Cooper's attitude will help him avoid the drops that hurt him at times as a rookie.

Fantasy Tip: While Cooper did drop 10 passes last year, his rookie year was a major success otherwise. He should only improve, making him a strong WR2 candidate in 2016.

Raiders | Amari Cooper earning Derek Carr's trust

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 18:03:04 -0700

Oakland Raiders WR Amari Cooper said he has a better idea of where QB Derek Carr wants to go with the football this season, and Carr said he is able to throw the ball to Cooper earlier because he knows where Cooper will be.

Fantasy Tip: Cooper should be a high-end WR2 in his second season, and Carr is a potential QB1 candidate if you wait until later in the draft to address the position.

Raiders | Taiwan Jones likely to keep returner job

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 14:28:28 -0700

Oakland Raiders RB Taiwan Jones likely will be the main kick returner in 2016 as long as he can stay healthy, according to special teams coordinator Brad Seely.

Fantasy Tip: Jones could see some time on offense this season but probably will be behind Latavius Murray and DeAndre Washington on the depth chart. Owners in all leagues probably can avoid Jones in their drafts.

Raiders | DeAndre Washington may have role early

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 12:22:59 -0700

Oakland Raiders RB DeAndre Washington likely will receive a solid role in the offense because the coaching staff thinks he can contribute right away. He could be used as a third-down back that can run inside and be a receiver out of the backfield. Washington can be a complement to RB Latavius Murray since they have different skills.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Washington has a good chance to win the No. 2 running back job and can see a decent amount of playing time. He should be a solid late-round running back in most fantasy leagues and should be an attractive player in keeper leagues.

Raiders | Roy Helu may be on bubble

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 15:10:05 -0700

Oakland Raiders RB Roy Helu (hip) may be on the roster bubble during training camp because RBs DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard have similar skill sets to Helu. Helu also missed all of the offseason workouts because of his hip injury.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the competition to see if Helu will need to find a job with another team. He likely will see limited playing time no matter where he plays and will not be a strong fantasy option.

Oakland Raiders CB David Amerson said he increased his work ethic and worked on the little things to improve as a player after being cut by the Washington Redskins. The cornerback's improvement and performance led him to a contract extension this offseason.

Raiders | Derek Carr more than a thrower

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 10:28:42 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is more polished and isn't a gunslinger, according to former QB Brett Favre.

Fantasy Tip: When you think of the term "gunslinger," you think of a high-touchdown output and someone that takes more risks, which lead to more interceptions. Carr threw for 3,987 yards, 32 touchdowns and 13 interceptions last season. There is room to grow from there, but taking him as anything more than a low-end QB1 would be a risk.

Oakland Raiders LB Khalil Mack has made quite the impression on LB Malcolm Smith. "I've never seen anybody like Khalil Mack," Smith said. "I don't think I played against a player who's kind of dominant as Khalil is in a one-on-one setting, even a two-on-one setting."
