New York Jets news, rumors and injuriesFri, 24 May 2013 11:20:18 -0700 New York Jets owner Woody Johnson said QB Mark Sanchez does not have an edge over QB Geno Smith for the starting quarterback job this season. Share: Jets | Knew David Garrard had injury issues Fri, 24 May 2013 11:11:23 -0700 New York Jets owner Woody Johnson said the team knew retired QB David Garrard may not be able to play when they signed him this offseason but were hoping he would be able to get past his injuries. Share: Jets | Mike Goodson to return to practice Fri, 24 May 2013 07:57:05 -0700 New York Jets RB Mike Goodson will return to practice next week. Share: Jets | Chris Ivory has strong lead for featured work Thu, 23 May 2013 22:06:53 -0700 New York Jets RB Chris Ivory impressed in practice Wednesday, May 22, and is lining up to be the feature back. Mike Goodson's legal troubles are jeopardizing his future with the team. Joe McKnight doesn't appear long for the club. Bilal Powell is the only true competition for touches. Fantasy Tip: Ivory, who often dazzled in changeup work with the New Orleans Saints, has a high ceiling in this West Coast offense, but his floor is pretty low, as well, if the quarterback play (Mark Sanchez? Geno Smith?) doesn't come through. He's more safely drafted as an RB3 but might garner RB2 attention. Don't put yourself in the latter category based on numbers he hasn't produced yet. Share: Jets | Players not backing Mark Sanchez? Thu, 23 May 2013 10:33:55 -0700 An anonymous New York Jets player said that the team is skeptical about QB Mark Sanchez and his ability to be successful. "Everyone on the team likes Mark personally, but there's a general feeling among some of the players that maybe it's time to give someone else a chance." The player said 80 to 90 percent of the roster agrees with that statement. Sanchez is still trying to figure out the team's new West Coast offense. Fantasy Tip: Any way you look at it, the Jets' quarterback situation won't be pretty this year. Sanchez or Geno Smith, whoever wins the competition, won't be endorsed for anything more than a poor QB2 this year. Share: Jets | Coach unhappy with Mark Sanchez's OTA performance Wed, 22 May 2013 15:02:21 -0700 New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he was disappointed with QB Mark Sanchez after he threw three interceptions during organized team activities Wednesday, May 22. "Yeah, it is. Absolutely. It's a good thing defense makes the plays, but no, I'd rather him not turn the ball over once," Ryan said. "He did a lot of great things, and then those negative things, at the end of the day, that's what gets you beat. And so we got to do a better job of eliminating those turnovers." Share: Jets | Santonio Holmes not expected to take part in minicamp Wed, 22 May 2013 13:09:35 -0700 New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he does not believe that WR Santonio Holmes (foot) will be able to participate in the team's minicamp in June. Fantasy Tip: Holmes can take a cautious approach with his foot injury at this point since the regular season is a few months away. Holmes probably should be seen as a No. 4 wide receiver entering drafts because of the team's uncertain quarterback situation and the lack of other options on offense. Share: Jets | Stephen Hill dealing with swelling Wed, 22 May 2013 12:30:46 -0700 New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said WR Stephen Hill (knee) did not participate in organized team activities Wednesday, May 22, because of swelling in his knee. Share: Jets | Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith struggle Wed, 22 May 2013 12:25:36 -0700 New York Jets QBs Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith both struggled during organized team activities Wednesday, May 22, with Sanchez completing only six of his 11 passes, including three interceptions. Sanchez worked with the first-team unit, although he and Smith received basically the same number of snaps. Smith completed only three of 10 passes with an interception. Fantasy Tip: Not a good start to the team's quarterback competition. It's probably best to stay away from whoever wins this starting gig. There should be plenty of higher upside options for your QB2 spot as Week 1 approaches. Share: Jets | Geno Smith hires new agency Wed, 22 May 2013 12:02:07 -0700 New York Jets QB Geno Smith has hired Roc Nation Sports, Jay-Z's new sports agency, as his new representation. Smith has yet to sign a deal with the Jets. Share: Jets | Mike Goodson to plead not guilty Tue, 21 May 2013 12:10:46 -0700 New York Jets RB Mike Goodson will plead not guilty to all charges, with the most serious being a second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. If convicted, Goodson would face a minimum three-year prison sentence under the Graves Act. Goodson's defense is confident they will show that he was not in possession of the gun. Goodson also faces a third-degree possession of a loaded handgun and marijuana and paraphernalia charges. Fantasy Tip: Even if Goodson avoids serious jail time in this case, that doesn't mean that he won't be suspended for a good chunk of the season by the NFL. As a result, he's a risky handcuff option to Chris Ivory on draft day. Share: Jets | Could name starting QB soon Tue, 21 May 2013 11:03:35 -0700 New York Jets QBs Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith are expected to compete for the starting quarterback job this offseason, but the quarterback competition could be settled well before the team even heads to training camp in July. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg wants one of the two QBs to separate himself from the other, and if that happens this week, the team isn't against naming their starter early. "Common sense tells you that you hope it's quick, but this is going to be a full blown competition. Period," Mornhinweg said. Sanchez, because of his experience, has the advantage to take control of the early competition. Smith, who spent much of his college days in shotgun, is spending a ton of time taking snaps from under center during OTAs with quarterbacks coach David Lee. Mornhinweg knows that the longer their QB competition lasts, the less time the winner will have to work with the first-team offense. The team also won't just name a starter to name a starter, they want a clear winner in the competition. Fantasy Tip: Sanchez has the leg up on Smith from the start, but that could change. Neither quarterback will be a solid fantasy backup QB, though, because of the team's lack of solid receiving threats and the fact that either QB could be replaced at any point during the season due to poor performance. Share: Jets | Mike Goodson meets with team officials Mon, 20 May 2013 12:02:26 -0700 New York Jets RB Mike Goodson was in attendance at the team's first OTA practice Monday, May 20, but only to meet with team officials following his arrest on drug and weapons charges last week. Goodson didn't participate or watch the team's workouts, and his future with the team is uncertain. If Goodson pleads guilty or is convicted of unlawful possession of a handgun, he'll be subject to the Graves Act, which is a New Jersey law that carries a minimum of three years in jail. Share: Jets | Did not show interest in Brian Hoyer Sun, 19 May 2013 10:14:11 -0700 The New York Jets did not express interest or make an offer to Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer before he signed with the Browns. Share: Jets | Teammate does not think Mike Goodson will stay Sat, 18 May 2013 11:43:38 -0700 New York Jets OG Willie Colon said he does not think RB Mike Goodson will remain with the team after being arrested earlier this week. "It's one of the things where it's zero-tolerance with stuff like that," Colon said. "It's sad. Mike could have been huge for us." Fantasy Tip: If the team does decide to release Goodson, Chris Ivory probably would be a bigger favorite to win the starting running back job this season. He likely would be a solid No. 2 running back on most fantasy teams. Share: ![]() |
