Jets | Jets want Bilal Powell back

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 04:23:10 -0800

Free-agent RB Bilal Powell (Jets) is wanted back by the New York Jets, who want to make a "sincere effort" to re-sign him.

Fantasy Tip: Powell is not the long-term answer at running back but was used a lot on third-down situations when healthy. Right now he carries minimal fantasy value, except maybe as a "handcuff" pick with the top running back on the team (whomever that turns out to be).

Jets | Andre Johnson not likely going to Jets

Tue, 03 Mar 2015 16:24:20 -0800

Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson probably won't be pursued by the New York Jets after Johnson recently requested to be traded or released. Johnson, at age 33, wouldn't be the best fit for the Jets, who are relatively young at the wide receiver position. Additionally, Johnson would ideally want to play for a more realistic contender at this point in his career.

Fantasy Tip: We can't effectively gauge Johnson's fantasy value right now, but he wouldn't be of much value as a Jet. If Percy Harvin leaves this offseason, Eric Decker will be the receiver to own as far as the Jets are concerned.

Jets | Cornerback a big need in free agency

Tue, 03 Mar 2015 13:27:53 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent CB Darrelle Revis has already been named as a target for the New York Jets if he is not re-signed by New England. Other impending free-agent cornerbacks the Jets could pursue include Seattle Seahawks CB Byron Maxwell, Houston Texans CB Kareem Jackson, San Francisco 49ers CB Chris Culliver and Arizona Cardinals CB Antonio Cromartie. If Revis rejoins the Patriots, Maxwell could be the lead candidate among free-agent cornerbacks the Jets will sign, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York.

Jets | New York still committed to Geno Smith

Wed, 25 Feb 2015 10:59:32 -0800

New York Jets QB Geno Smith may not have big competition for the starting quarterback job, because the team is not committed to selecting a quarterback with the sixth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. The Jets are committed to make Smith a successful starting quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Smith had a solid finish to the 2014 season with six touchdowns and two interceptions in the last four games. There is a chance that the Jets could add a quarterback during the offseason to compete with Smith, but Smith appears to be the leading candidate for the job. Smith should be considered a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy drafts next season.

Jets | C.J. Spiller fond of Jets

Tue, 24 Feb 2015 15:17:59 -0800

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent RB C.J. Spiller made it very clear that he's a fan of Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. Gailey coached Spiller from 2010 to 2012 with the Bills. "His offense is going to be very creative," Spiller said. "He's going put his players in the best situations to win matchups. Just a humble guy. First class. Goes about his business the right way. He's going to treat his men like men." The Jets have a hole at running back with RBs Chris Johnson and Bilal Powell poised to leave.

Fantasy Tip: A reunion with Gailey seems like the perfect fit for Spiller. If it indeed happens, he'll make for an intriguing back to complement with Chris Ivory's downhill running style. Spiller could easily be a sleeper running back in PPR leagues with any organization that he lands with, but the Jets would present him with a great opportunity at a bounce-back season.

Jets | Hope to turn Geno Smith into winner

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 20:16:55 -0800

New York Jets QB Geno Smith might soon have company despite the fact general manager Mike Maccagnan said the team is "committed" to trying to turn Smith into a winning quarterback. The team met with free-agent QB Josh McCown (Buccaneers) Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Smith has been mostly a disaster in his first two seasons, and he is certainly not a quarterback fantasy owners can pin their hopes to. Smith likely would need to take a giant leap forward to be the starter in Week 1 of the 2015 season.

Jets | Dee Milliner not expected until summer

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 20:16:25 -0800

Updating a previous report, New York Jets CB Dee Milliner (Achilles') might not be ready until early summer. The team sounds as if they will use the worst-case scenario as a guide as they venture into free agency. They're not counting on Milliner to be 100 percent. When asked, both head coach Todd Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan identified cornerback as one of the team's most pressing needs.

Jets | Josh McCown meets with Jets

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 15:40:24 -0800

Free-agent QB Josh McCown (Buccaneers) met with the New York Jets Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the NFL Scouting Combine. The Jets have said they are not ready to give up on QB Geno Smith, but are also exploring options at the position, including interviewing QBs Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota this week.

Fantasy Tip: Again, no matter where McCown signs, he won't have a ton of fantasy value. He may not even be the starting quarterback at his next location. McCown is firmly in fantasy backup quarterback territory.

Jets | New York to talk with Jameis Winston

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 12:03:45 -0800

Florida State QB Jameis Winston is scheduled to meet with the New York Jets during the NFL Scouting Combine.

Fantasy Tip: Winston could be an option for the Jets in the first round if he is available. He likely would compete with Geno Smith for the starting job if he joins the Jets. He would not be more than a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he won the job.
