New York Jets news, rumors and injuriesTue, 18 Jun 2013 10:32:22 -0700 The New York Jets are paying the Denver Broncos $1.53 million in 2013 as part of their trade agreement for QB Tim Tebow. Tebow signed a two-year, $1.36 million deal with the New England Patriots recently. Share: Jets | Geno Smith have trouble adjusting to new system Mon, 17 Jun 2013 14:18:43 -0700 New York Jets quarterbacks coach David Lee said QB Geno Smith has had some trouble adjusting to the West Coast offense during offseason workouts because it is nothing like what he did at West Virginia. Head coach Rex Ryan said he believes Smith will show improvement once training camp starts. "His steps - dropbacks - his mechanics footwork wise weren't dialed in the way they'll have to be at this level. I think some of that is your five and seven step drops, it's all new to him. But sometimes you can't even notice it. Because when he's on, the guy is absolutely terrific. We knew that it's not an easy process but it's one that I have confidence that when we get to Cortland, I think when the thing goes I think you're going to see the guy keep improving and improving and improving," Ryan said. Share: Jets | Travis Tripucka cut Mon, 17 Jun 2013 12:46:37 -0700 The New York Jets have released LS Travis Tripucka. Share: Jets | Santonio Holmes talks about injury Sun, 16 Jun 2013 20:40:36 -0700 New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (foot) spoke to the media recently, shedding light on his Lisfranc foot injury. Holmes said his foot injury was diagnosed as a Grade 4 injury (the most serious kind), meaning a muscle tear and joint separation in his mid-foot. He had screws and a plate removed in a March surgical procedure, but he will have two screws in the foot permanently. Holmes said his "target date" is the first day of training camp. Fantasy Tip: Holmes has yet to start running and cutting, and he is a huge question mark. It's even more worrisome since Stephen Hill, likely the leading candidate to start opposite Holmes, is dealing with more drop problems during offseason practices. Holmes might be a tremendous late-round pick-up for fantasy owners on draft day, and if he flames out or underproduces, no harm and no foul. Share: Jets | Kellen Winslow to see limited reps? Sun, 16 Jun 2013 20:39:48 -0700 New York Jets TE Kellen Winslow impressed in a tryout in minicamp, leading to a one-year contract. However, an opposing personnel executive is not sold Winslow can be 100 percent effective anymore. "I think it's a lot like (former QB David Garrard). He'll be fine in a workout, moving and running, but taking a hit, the grind of training camp and a full, 16-game season will be the litmus test," the executive said. "I'd watch him closely to see if they manage his reps and practice time." Fantasy Tip: Winslow has had multiple knee surgeries since 2005, including microfracture surgery in 2007. Last season, Winslow said he plays in constant pain, so it is uncertain if he suddenly feels better or is just saying the right things to get a job. Either way, his fantasy appeal is rather minimal heading into the regular season, if he even makes it that far. Share: Jets | Santonio Holmes hopes to be ready for camp Sun, 16 Jun 2013 08:23:33 -0700 New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (foot) indicated he hopes to be ready for the start of training camp. Holmes may not be ready for camp because he has not started running or cutting yet. Fantasy Tip: It appears Holmes' status for training camp and the start of the regular season could be in question because of the foot injury he suffered last season. Holmes will be the team's No. 1 wide receiver when he is healthy, but the team's quarterback situation hurts his value. He should be considered a No. 4 fantasy receiver at this point. Share: Jets | Stephen Hill struggled during minicamp Sun, 16 Jun 2013 08:15:18 -0700 New York Jets WR Stephen Hill struggled with drops during the team's recent minicamp. Fantasy Tip: Hill did not have a big impact in his rookie year but is expected to be one of the team's starting wide receivers this season. Hill has dealt with some knee issues during the offseason but should be ready for training camp. He could be a late-round option in deeper leagues. Share: Jets | Geno Smith needs to work on calling plays in huddle Sun, 16 Jun 2013 08:10:47 -0700 New York Jets quarterbacks coach David Lee said QB Geno Smith needs to be more consistent with his ability to call plays in the huddle. Smith struggled with some of the calls during offseason workouts. Share: Jets | Mike Goodson's future still uncertain Sun, 16 Jun 2013 08:10:23 -0700 New York Jets RB Mike Goodson's future with the team is still uncertain because of his arrest this offseason. He could face a one-game suspension if he pleads guilty to possession of marijuana. The gun charges against him could be dropped. Share: Jets | Defense to be more aggressive Sun, 16 Jun 2013 08:06:43 -0700 New York Jets LB David Harris said the defense will be more aggressive getting to the quarterback than they were the last few seasons. "We're going to do a lot of blitzing and getting after people," Harris said. "There should be a different brand of football than you were used to seeing the last couple of years." Share: Jets | Kellen Winslow expected to compete for starting job Fri, 14 Jun 2013 14:46:14 -0700 New York Jets TE Kellen Winslow is expected to be a candidate for the starting tight end job during training camp because of his past success. Share: Jets | Joe McKnight says No. 1 RB not decided Fri, 14 Jun 2013 14:40:07 -0700 New York Jets RB Joe McKnight said none of the running backs won the starting running back job during offseason workouts and the competition will be decided during training camp. McKnight is expected to compete for RBs Chris Ivory, Mike Goodson and Bilal Powell for the starting job with Ivory considered the favorite at this point. Share: Jets | Kellen Winslow signed Fri, 14 Jun 2013 14:19:27 -0700 The New York Jets have signed free-agent TE Kellen Winslow (Patriots) to a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed. Fantasy Tip: It is not known what his role will be at this point, but he may be given the chance to compete for the starting tight end job. He could have some fantasy value as a No. 2 tight end if he wins the starting job because the team does not have a lot of weapons in the passing game. Share: Jets | Two expected to compete for safety job Fri, 14 Jun 2013 14:00:05 -0700 New York Jets FS Josh Bush and SS Antonio Allen are expected to compete for one of the starting safety jobs during training camp. Allen worked with the first-team defense during organized team activities, but Bush worked with the starters during minicamp. SS Jaiquawn Jarrett could also become a part of the competition during camp. Share: Jets | Kyle Wilson performs well during workouts Fri, 14 Jun 2013 13:58:27 -0700 New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he was impressed with how CB Kyle Wilson performed during offseason workouts. "This is the best camp he's had and it's not close. I've been proud of the way he's come into these OTAs and the way he's competing," Ryan said. "The other thing about Kyle, mentally he's a sharp guy as well. He can work inside and outside and we'll play him in both spots." Wilson worked mostly as the nickel back during the workouts but could compete with CB Dee Milliner for a starting job. Share: ![]() |
