New York Jets QB Geno Smith may not have big competition for the starting quarterback job, because the team is not committed to selecting a quarterback with the sixth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. The Jets are committed to make Smith a successful starting quarterback.
Fantasy Tip: Smith had a solid finish to the 2014 season with six touchdowns and two interceptions in the last four games. There is a chance that the Jets could add a quarterback during the offseason to compete with Smith, but Smith appears to be the leading candidate for the job. Smith should be considered a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy drafts next season.

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent RB C.J. Spiller made it very clear that he's a fan of Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. Gailey coached Spiller from 2010 to 2012 with the Bills. "His offense is going to be very creative," Spiller said. "He's going put his players in the best situations to win matchups. Just a humble guy. First class. Goes about his business the right way. He's going to treat his men like men." The Jets have a hole at running back with RBs Chris Johnson and Bilal Powell poised to leave.
Fantasy Tip: A reunion with Gailey seems like the perfect fit for Spiller. If it indeed happens, he'll make for an intriguing back to complement with Chris Ivory's downhill running style. Spiller could easily be a sleeper running back in PPR leagues with any organization that he lands with, but the Jets would present him with a great opportunity at a bounce-back season.

New York Jets QB Geno Smith might soon have company despite the fact general manager Mike Maccagnan said the team is "committed" to trying to turn Smith into a winning quarterback. The team met with free-agent QB Josh McCown (Buccaneers) Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Fantasy Tip: Smith has been mostly a disaster in his first two seasons, and he is certainly not a quarterback fantasy owners can pin their hopes to. Smith likely would need to take a giant leap forward to be the starter in Week 1 of the 2015 season.

Updating a previous report, New York Jets CB Dee Milliner (Achilles') might not be ready until early summer. The team sounds as if they will use the worst-case scenario as a guide as they venture into free agency. They're not counting on Milliner to be 100 percent. When asked, both head coach Todd Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan identified cornerback as one of the team's most pressing needs.

Free-agent QB Josh McCown (Buccaneers) met with the New York Jets Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the NFL Scouting Combine. The Jets have said they are not ready to give up on QB Geno Smith, but are also exploring options at the position, including interviewing QBs Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota this week.
Fantasy Tip: Again, no matter where McCown signs, he won't have a ton of fantasy value. He may not even be the starting quarterback at his next location. McCown is firmly in fantasy backup quarterback territory.

Fantasy Tip: Winston could be an option for the Jets in the first round if he is available. He likely would compete with Geno Smith for the starting job if he joins the Jets. He would not be more than a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he won the job.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets may consider selecting a quarterback if one of the top two quarterbacks falls to their spot. Mariota would compete with Geno Smith for the starting job if the Jets select him. Mariota would not be more than a No. 2 quarterback if he was the Jets starting quarterback.

New York Jets CB Dee Milliner's (Achilles') status for the spring practices is still up in the air at this point, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles said it is too early tell if Milliner will be ready by the spring.

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford is being watched by the New York Jets. Bradford has one year left on his contract with the Rams and carries a $16.58 million hit to the salary cap. The Jets cannot touch Bradford unless St. Louis cuts him and lets him hit free agency.
Fantasy Tip: Bradford has dropped in stature in the past couple seasons due to ACL injuries, so the best thing for him might be a change of scenery. His fantasy value has declined significantly, but one strong season could turn him around.

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) said he expected to have a bigger role with the New York Jets this past season but saw his playing time decrease as the season went on. Johnson said he sat down with former head coach Rex Ryan to talk about his role with the team but was never given the chance to show his talent.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson likely will join a team as a backup this offseason and see limited touches next season. Johnson could be an option in the final few rounds of fantasy drafts depending on which team he joins but will not be a weekly starting option.

Fantasy Tip: As previously stated, a change of scenery will probably be good for Johnson, who had the worst season of his career in 2014. Although, Johnson could very well still be part of a committee approach with his next team.
