Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick wants to return

Mon, 23 May 2016 10:27:45 -0700

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) wants to re-sign with the New York Jets. "I would like to be back," Fitzpatrick said. He's been in a three-month contract stalemate with the Jets.

Fantasy Tip: Both sides still have a large gap in money, but there is still time for an agreement to be reached before training camp. Fitz enjoyed a renaissance season with the Jets in 2015 and his highest fantasy value is in green and white. He developed excellent chemistry with both Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker and would be a fringe fantasy starter based on matchups if he returns.

Jets | Unsigned Darron Lee to practice

Mon, 23 May 2016 06:09:41 -0700

New York Jets LB Darron Lee has yet to sign his rookie contract, but he is expected to take part in practices. The first-round pick is slotted to sign a four-year deal for $10.2 million, including a $5.6 million signing bonus. All first-round picks have fifth-year options in their deals.

Jets | NY has high hopes for Hackenberg

Fri, 20 May 2016 11:07:10 -0700

New York Jets director of player personnel Brian Heimerdinger said the Jets have high hopes for QB Christian Hackenberg, their second-round draft pick. Heimerdinger also said the addition of Hackenberg doesn't reflect poorly on QB Bryce Petty.

Fantasy Tip: A lot will depend on whether the Jets re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick. If they don't, there's a chance Hackenberg could see some starts as soon as this season, although that's not ideal. Any way you slice it, if Hackenberg is starting games in 2016, something went wrong for Gang Green, and it'd drastically affect the fantasy values of stud receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. Hackenberg is a dynasty league target but should be ignored in standard leagues.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick deadline soon?

Thu, 19 May 2016 13:31:28 -0700

The deadline for free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) could be sooner than expected. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport posits that the first legitimate deadline is when the New York Jets' organized team activities start Tuesday, May 24.

Fantasy Tip: Next Tuesday isn't the final date Fitzpatrick can re-sign, but it may be the first real important date. The standoff may very well last past then, possibly up until or past training camp. If Fitzpatrick does eventually re-sign, he'll immediately enter the low-end QB1 conversation.

Jets | Teammate expects Ryan Fitzpatrick back

Tue, 17 May 2016 18:55:12 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) is not close to a contract agreement with the New York Jets, but Jets WR Eric Decker said he expects Fitzpatrick to be the starting quarterback in the first regular season game.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets are still interested in re-signing Fitzpatrick but are not willing to pay him what he is asking for at this point. Owners should keep an eye on the situation because Fitzpatrick would be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in some deeper leagues and would help the fantasy value of Decker and Brandon Marshall.

Jets | Eric Decker talks Ryan Fitzpatrick

Tue, 17 May 2016 16:58:43 -0700

New York Jets WR Eric Decker said the Jets need to be prepared to play without free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets). Decker does want New York to re-sign the veteran quarterback, but he's focused on the football team as a whole. "All I can say is we have to move on without him right now because they are stuck where they are with the business decision," Decker said. "But, again, we have a job to do and that's to be the best football team, field the best football team, of who we have in the locker room right now."

Fantasy Tip: Decker and the offense would be better off with Fitzpatrick back, but Decker is right. For now, Geno Smith will start at quarterback for the Jets, which would somewhat lessen the fantasy value and his cohorts like Brandon Marshall. That being said, Decker and Marshall are still in WR2 and WR1 territory, respectively, with Marshall having more value in PPR leagues.

Jets | Bryce Petty thinks he's improved

Tue, 17 May 2016 10:07:28 -0700

New York Jets QB Bryce Petty said he's more advanced at the position than he was last year when he was drafted in the fourth round. Petty understands and recognizes defensive tendencies. "For me, where I was when they drafted me last year to where I am now, it's night-and-day difference," Petty said. "For me, it's a process. Just watching film, I'm seeing things." After drafting QB Christian Hackenberg in the second round this year, the Jets could keep four QBs on roster.

Jets | OC likes Christian Hackenberg

Mon, 16 May 2016 19:26:10 -0700

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg has a great deal of potential and has good arm strength and intelligence, according to offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. Gailey said he is not worried that Hackenberg struggled in his last two college seasons.

Fantasy Tip: Geno Smith probably is the leading candidate to start in 2016 if the team does not re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick, but Christian Hackenberg may receive a chance to start at some point this upcoming season. Hackenberg likely will not have much value in most leagues but can be selected in keeper leagues.

Jets | Matt Forte not ready to slow down

Sun, 15 May 2016 20:44:36 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte said he wants break the older running back stereotype, and his goal is to rush for 1,000 yards and catch as many passes as the offense allows.

Fantasy Tip: Forte is no longer the RB1 option he was with Chicago, but he is a RB2 candidate in PPR formats and a RB3 option in standard formats.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg financials

Thu, 12 May 2016 16:58:54 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg's four-year rookie contract is worth $4.66 million.

Fantasy Tip: Even with Ryan Fitzpatrick still not re-signed, Hackenberg is not ready to start immediately at the professional level. Geno Smith and Bryce Petty will likely be ahead of him even if Fitzpatrick does not come back on board. Hackenberg has no fantasy this season in traditional leagues.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg inks rookie deal

Thu, 12 May 2016 12:14:14 -0700

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg signed his four-year rookie contract Thursday, May 12.

Fantasy Tip: Hackenberg is a project quarterback and would be best served job shadowing during his first pro season. Accuracy concerns and his lack of progress during his collegiate career limit his fantasy value to keeper/dynasty formats, and Hackenberg should be viewed a desperation start if forced into action during the 2016 season.

Tue, 10 May 2016 13:55:07 -0700

Undrafted free-agent RB Terron Beckham will not be signed by the New York Jets after trying out for the team last weekend. Beckham is the cousin of New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr.
