New York Giants news, rumors and injuriesTue, 18 Jun 2013 12:01:17 -0700 It is believed the New York Giants and WR Victor Cruz are separated by $3 million in guaranteed money. The Giants are believed to be offering $12-15 million in guaranteed money and Cruz is seeking $15-18 million in guaranteed money. Share: Giants | Victor Cruz looking for around $9 million a year Sat, 15 Jun 2013 08:11:02 -0700 New York Giants WR Victor Cruz is looking for around $9 million per season in a new long-term deal. It was believed he was looking for around $11 million earlier but he dropped his demand when he switched agents. Share: Giants | Were going to reduce Victor Cruz's tender Fri, 14 Jun 2013 13:11:26 -0700 The New York Giants were going to reduce the value of WR Victor Cruz's tender offer if he did not sign the tender. Share: Giants | Victor Cruz signs tender Fri, 14 Jun 2013 12:42:25 -0700 New York Giants restricted free-agent WR Victor Cruz has signed his one-year tender offer and will make $2.879 million this season. Cruz said the two sides will continue to discuss a long-term deal. Share: Giants | Victor Cruz could still hold out Fri, 14 Jun 2013 11:14:41 -0700 New York Giants restricted free-agent WR Victor Cruz could still hold out training camp even though he will sign his tender offer. Cruz could be fined $30,000 per day if he does not report to training camp. Share: Giants | Victor Cruz could still hold out Fri, 14 Jun 2013 10:15:22 -0700 New York Giants WR Victor Cruz could still hold out of training camp, according to a source with knowledge of these types of situations, despite the fact that Cruz will sign his one-year tender on Friday, June 14. Cruz will be under contract and thus subject to fines of $30,000 per day if he doesn't show. He could have lost $2.289 million if the Giants had retracted the tender offer on Monday, June 17, and replaced it with an offer of $590,000. At that rate for fines, Cruz could afford 76 days of them before he'd reach the $2.289 million for which he's signing his tender. The source said there were no indications that the team was going to rescind the offer, but Cruz didn't want to take the chance. Fantasy Tip: The article also cited Mike Wallace's situation last season, when the Pittsburgh Steelers didn't elect to rescind the receiver's high tender with a greatly reduced amount. That suggests Cruz really had little to worry about. Negotiations seem to have been somewhat amicable, and the Giants seem to be happy with him, so a holdout seems unlikely barring a drastic change in the nature of the development of this story. Share: Giants | David Wilson's duties as KR may be affected Fri, 14 Jun 2013 09:56:15 -0700 New York Giants RB David Wilson's number of kickoff returns will be affected by his workload at running back, hinted special teams coordinator Tom Quinn. "We'll see how that all plays out," Quinn began. "Obviously, he would like to do it. He's done it very well, but we'll have to see how it all comes down with where he is on the depth chart and what he's doing on offense. It might be maybe for one or two or you don't need him for one or two, but we've got other guys that we feel good about. They feel good about the scheme and the system that's in place." Fantasy Tip: In other words, however much time Andre Brown earns over Wilson in the backfield affects however many kickoffs the Giants will feel that Wilson can handle. Fantasy owners, in most formats, would prefer to see the smallish Wilson participate on special teams less often, but that sounds unlikely unless he becomes the featured back -- which is unlikely. Still, he's obviously an intriguing RB2 or RB3. Share: Giants | Hakeem Nicks', Victor Cruz's absences have effects Fri, 14 Jun 2013 09:55:31 -0700 New York Giants WRs Hakeem Nicks, who attended the team's minicamp but not OTAs, and Victor Cruz, who didn't, were the subject of inquiry related to how long it will take them to get their timing back because of their offseason absences. Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride responded, "That is so, not unimportant, but it is just a relatively minor thing," he began. "The thing is they haven't been working. They haven't been listening. They haven't been growing, they haven't been developing. They haven't been receiving the coaching that they need to get better. To be quite frank, they need it. And the absence and not being here has hurt them and because of that, it has hurt us." Gilbride added that the positive is that other receivers have received those reps and opportunities to become integral pieces of the offense down the road. Fantasy Tip: Now that Cruz has signed his tender, he and Nicks will have ample time to catch up on whatever they missed. Neither player's fantasy value should be affected. Share: Giants | Prince Amukamara on the rise, wants more responsibility Fri, 14 Jun 2013 09:44:27 -0700 New York Giants CB Prince Amukamara has expressed his desire to cover the opponent's No. 1 wide receiver for his team, a responsibility that has ordinarily gone to CB Corey Webster, this year. When asked what he's seen of Amukamara this offseason, defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said, "A lot of improvement because he's practiced every day and his skill set is much improved," Fewell said. "I see a nice confidence in him right now." Share: Giants | Mark Herzlich to enter camp as No. 1 MLB Fri, 14 Jun 2013 09:18:40 -0700 New York Giants LB Mark Herzlich, who lined up with the first-team defense throughout the team's organized team activities and minicamp, is expected to be the starter at middle linebacker when training camp begins on July 26. He's aware that the job appears to be his to secure and has been "very commanding," according to defensive coordinator Perry Fewell. "He's taken a leadership role out there and I think he has some good respect from his teammates in some of the things he's done in the OTAs. Obviously, we want to find out what happens when the pads come on." LB Dan Connor figured to stand a good chance to starter in the middle, but he's been unable to displace Herzlich. Fantasy Tip: This is worthy news for those in deep IDP leagues. Watch how training camp unfolds to see if Herzlich maintains his appeal. Share: Giants | Victor Cruz signing tender Fri, 14 Jun 2013 08:12:10 -0700 New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said he would sign his restricted free-agent tender Friday, June 14. "I'm going to sign my tender today and will continue talks for a long-term deal before camp starts." Fantasy Tip: Take a sigh of relief that a holdout is unlikely to occur. Share: Giants | Rueben Randle earning rave reviews Thu, 13 Jun 2013 15:50:05 -0700 New York Giants WR Rueben Randle became QB Eli Manning's primary target during the absences of WRs Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz, who's still not at camp because of contract discussions. "His whole demeanor, his whole professionalism was outstanding," offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said of Randle. "Not only did he grow, he kind of became the bell cow of the receiving corps. ... Oh, he's gonna play. He's gonna play a lot [in 2013]." Randle's versatility in where to line up should help his playing time. Fantasy Tip: Let's wait until later this summer before we bolster Randle's stock significantly, but his late-rounds-flyer status looks to be pretty solid as of today. Share: Giants | Justin Pugh not replacing David Diehl Thu, 13 Jun 2013 10:02:01 -0700 New York Giants OT Justin Pugh isn't replacing RT David Diehl, according to offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride. "The man's not going to give up the job," Gilbride said. "... But certainly Justin was brought in ... to be a starting position. Not necessarily to unseat David, because David can move inside and be a guard for us." Fantasy Tip: The Giants' offensive line has been around awhile, but questions about age have loomed over it lately. Pugh is expected to play a big part, in some role, in 2013, so that's something to watch this summer Share: Giants | Justin Pugh unsigned, won't hold out Thu, 13 Jun 2013 09:13:18 -0700 New York Giants OT Justin Pugh has not yet signed, but the first-round pick promised he won't be a training camp holdout. It's expected that his guaranteed money will soon be determined. Share: Giants | Reach out to Vonta Leach Tue, 11 Jun 2013 20:12:52 -0700 The New York Giants reached out to free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens) Tuesday, June 11, according to a person with knowledge of the discussion. Leach was released by the Baltimore Ravens Tuesday. Share: ![]() |
