New York Giants RB Shane Vereen gives the Giants something they didn't have last season -- a receiving threat out of the backfield. "I see him in that regard as a pass receiver out of the backfield," head coach Tom Coughlin said. Coughlin added that Vereen can protect the quarterback and is a capable runner.
Fantasy Tip: It appears that Vereen may be used more often than originally thought in New York's offense. The bulk of his fantasy value remains in point-per-reception leagues, though he may not be targeted as much as he was in New England with the Giants' receiving trio of Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle. Still, Vereen has RB2 upside in PPR leagues.

New York Giants QB Eli Manning could play out the rest of his contract, but head coach Tom Coughlin didn't sound worried about Manning eventually receiving a contract extension in New York. "I don't see that as being an issue," Coughlin said when asked if the absence of an extension would become a distraction for Manning. "Eli knows he's our guy." The team brass appears willing to let Manning play out the final year of his contract he signed in 2009.
Fantasy Tip: There isn't much that stands out about Manning for fantasy owners, but he has been durable, playing a full 16 games in each of the last 10 seasons. After a rough 2013 season that saw him throw 18 touchdowns and 27 interceptions, he bounced back nicely in 2014 to throw for 30 TDs and 4,410 yards. Still, Manning profiles more as a decent QB2 in all formats.

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) "looks really good and light," according to head coach Tom Coughlin. Cruz started running last week six months after he tore the patellar tendon in his knee in Week 6. Coughlin projects Cruz to be available for the start of training camp, but he's unsure if Cruz will be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. However, the team remains cautiously optimistic about Cruz in 2015.
Fantasy Tip: It seems unlikely that Cruz will ever the player he once was after going through this devastating injury. Making it back for Week 1 may be a big stretch, too. Don't expect Cruz to have much fantasy value at all in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz might be lucky to have any fantasy football relevance at all in 2015 after suffering such a debilitating and horrific injury to his knee. He's fighting a very steep uphill battle to return, and it was an injury that often robs players of their explosiveness, which was a big part of Cruz's game. Keep an eye on his recovery, but don't expect much out of him this season.

Fantasy Tip: The club could potentially save up to $10 million on the salary cap by doing a deal now, but with a lot of free agents off the market it wouldn't be as appealing to the Giants. Manning is still a solid selection in fantasy drafts as this contract talk should not affect his on-field play.

New York Giants DE George Selvie will likely be a rotational player on the defensive line in 2015 under defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. The Giants really like DE Damontre Moore, and DE Robert Ayers is also another rotational piece with Selvie. DT Kenrick Ellis will likely play on early downs. Spagnuolo loves to load up on four pass rushers on passing downs, and Selvie gives them another piece to be creative with.

Fantasy Tip: Like his older brother Peyton, Eli's career is in the wind-down stage, but he also has some life left in the arm. Eli Manning is a decent QB2 option in most leagues. He isn't among the elites like before, but Manning won't cause you undue problems.

Fantasy Tip: Fells lost some fantasy value when Larry Donnell became the No. 1 tight end option in New York. Fells projects as more of a blocking tight end but carries a bit of value in case Donnell gets hurt.

New York Giants DT Kenrick Ellis could get the chance to start for the first time in his career with his new team. He was a rotational player for the New York Jets in their 3-4 defensive front, but he could fit as a first-down and second-down run-stuffer on the interior of the Giants' four-man D-line.

New York Giants OG Geoff Schwartz restructured his contract Tuesday, March 17, to reduce his 2015 salary from $3.675 million to $1.675 million. The revision saves the team $950,000 in salary cap space.
