Saints | No talks between Saints, Drew Brees

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 08:46:24 -0700

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees said he has not had contract extension talks with the Saints in the past three months. Brees said he would like to sign an extension at some point before the start of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Brees is entering the final year of his contract but will not hold out during training camp. Brees is still one of the better fantasy quarterbacks in the league even though he is 37 years old and should be a starting option in all fantasy leagues.

Saints | Michael Thomas to work as starter?

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 22:59:14 -0700

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas has a big body and could be a stud receiver in the red zone. Many project him to be the team's No. 2 wideout behind WR Brandin Cooks.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas is worth watching in training camp and the preseason. If the rookie can build rapport with Drew Brees, and the club doesn't look outside of the organization for veteran depth, Thomas might be worth a look as a WR3/4 or flex option in most fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.

Saints | Erik Harris turning heads in NOLA

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 19:03:15 -0700

New Orleans Saints S Erik Harris was working in a potato chip factory four years ago, but after landing a job with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League he met Saints CB Delvin Breaux. The latter talked up Harris to everyone in the organization, and the team liked what they saw enough to sign Harris. Now, he has played both safety spots while rotating in with the first-team defense during organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp. "He's been a pleasant surprise," head coach Sean Payton said.

Saints | Tim Hightower the backup?

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 17:13:12 -0700

New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower is the best bet to serve as the primary backup for RB Mark Ingram, according to beat writer Nick Underhill.

Fantasy Tip: Given Ingram's injury issues, Hightower could easily end up starting a few games. Grab him in the later rounds, especially if you are an Ingram owner.

Saints | Running backs fighting for roster spots

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 10:42:52 -0700

New Orleans Saints RBs Travaris Cadet, Daniel Lasco and Marcus Murphy will all be battling for a spot on the final roster, with Cadet being the most likely to make the team.

Fantasy Tip: Both Cadet and Lasco can give the Saints help in the passing game, while Murphy helps more as a returner. Mark Ingram, Tim Hightower and C.J. Spiller will likely be the top three backs, though. Whoever backs them up will only be worth a deep flier.

Saints | Sheldon Rankins may play every down

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 13:52:42 -0700

New Orleans Saints DT Sheldon Rankins performed well during the team's minicamp this offseason and should have a chance to be on the field for all three downs in 2016.

Saints | New Orleans not pushing for Anquan Boldin

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 12:15:49 -0700

Updating a previous report, free-agent WR Anquan Boldin (49ers) received some interest from the New Orleans Saints earlier in the offseason, but the team never made him an offer and are not pushing to sign him at this point, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Boldin should be able to find a team at some point during training camp but probably will not be a major fantasy option in 2016. Owners in all leagues can avoid Boldin during their drafts.

Saints | Anquan Boldin of interest to Saints

Thu, 14 Jul 2016 13:08:37 -0700

Free-agent WR Anquan Boldin (49ers) has been pursued the strongest by the New Orleans Saints, according to a source. Boldin thinks highly of Saints wide receivers coach John Morton, who coached him with the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: The Saints could use a veteran presence at wide receiver with Marques Colston gone, and the connection with Morton makes this possible marriage even more sensible. Signing Boldin would likely decrease the fantasy value of Willie Snead, Coby Fleener, Michael Thomas and Brandon Coleman, although probably Thomas and Coleman the most. If this move does come to fruition, Bolding should be viewed as no more than a WR4 in PPR leagues.

Saints | Coby Fleener could be second option

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 10:32:03 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener could be the second option in the passing game behind WR Brandin Cooks.

Fantasy Tip: It could boil down to how many snaps Willie Sneed loses to Michael Thomas in two-receiver sets. Either way, Fleener figures to be spotlighted on offense. Fleener is two years removed from an eight-touchdown season before his numbers drastically fell off as the Indianapolis Colts struggled altogether. Fleener is a low-end TE1 that could have a breakthrough.
