Saints | NO ready to make play for Justin Forsett

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 09:29:34 -0800

Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent RB Justin Forsett could see interest from the New Orleans Saints in free agency.

Fantasy Tip: Forsett is likely to get a lot of work with what ever team he signs with in 2015, but it is hard to imagine he will repeat on an outstanding 2014 season. Forsett should be considered an RB2 with some upside in PPR leagues.

Saints | Marques Colston restructures

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 07:41:52 -0800

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston restructured his contract Friday, March 6, and will return in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Colston still has some marginal PPR value in the Saints offense. However, he's a WR5 at the tail end of drafts.

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 09:46:04 -0800

New Orleans Saints FS Jairus Byrd had his contract restricted Thursday, March 5, to free up $4.8 million against the salary cap, according to sources. Byrd was due a $6 million roster bonus this year, which will now become a signing bonus and count just $1.2 million against the cap for each of the next five years.

Saints | Three RBs on Saints' roster

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 16:29:11 -0800

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Pierre Thomas' (Saints) release by the New Orleans Saints Wednesday, March 4, will save $1.735 million against the salary cap, and he carries an $830,000 "dead money" charge. Thomas would have counted $2.565 million against the salary cap this year. The Saints currently have three running backs on roster: RBs Khiry Robinson, Edwin Baker and Tim Hightower. RBs Travaris Cadet and Mark Ingram are both scheduled to be free agents.

Fantasy Tip: The release of PT cruiser isn't unexpected, since his role had quickly diminished over the last couple of seasons. If Ingram isn't re-signed, Robinson will have a clear path to the lead-back duties in New Orleans. And in an offense as potent as this, that'll make him very intriguing to fantasy football owners. Robinson could head into 2015 as a low-end RB1.

Saints | Pierre Thomas released

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 15:47:40 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas was released Wednesday, March 4.

Fantasy Tip: If impending free-agent RB Mark Ingram leaves, Khiry Robinson should take the reins as the Saints' primary running back and could garner RB2 consideration in standard scoring formats. Robinson played in just 10 games in 2014 but was productive when he did, averaging 4.8 yards on 76 carries with three touchdowns in a time split with Ingram and Thomas.

Mon, 23 Feb 2015 05:14:15 -0800

New Orleans Saints OG Jahri Evans was initially expected to be released this offseason, but the team is trying to negotiate a restructured contract. The team is at least $20 million over the 2015 projected salary cap.

Saints | Jameis Winston to talk with Saints

Fri, 20 Feb 2015 14:08:00 -0800

Florida State QB Jameis Winston is scheduled to meet with the New Orleans Saints during the NFL Scouting Combine.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known how likely it would be for the Saints to select Winston in the draft, but he likely would have to wait a few years to play with Drew Brees on the team. Winston would not be an option in fantasy drafts if he joins the Saints.

Saints | Sean Payton wants Mark Ingram back

Thu, 19 Feb 2015 17:00:50 -0800

New Orleans Saints impending free-agent RB Mark Ingram is coveted by head coach Sean Payton, and Payton is hoping the team can find a way to re-sign him. "Hopefully he's someone that's back in the black and gold. Because he's been a big part of our success offensively," Payton said of Ingram, who finally had a breakout year in his fourth NFL season, running for 964 yards and nine touchdowns and earning his first Pro Bowl invite as an alternate.

Fantasy Tip: The Saints will have to get creative with their salary cap in order to bring back Ingram. At first glance, our guess would be that Ingram moves on and Khiry Robinson becomes the Saints' feature back in 2015. If that's the case, Robinson will be an intriguing RB3 with upside for more in this potent offense.

Saints | No extension for Drew Brees?

Thu, 19 Feb 2015 16:56:24 -0800

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees doesn't need to receive a contract extension for the team to get under the 2015 salary cap, according to head coach Sean Payton. Brees has two years left on his five-year, $100 million deal, with salary cap hits of $26.4 million and $27.4 million in 2015 and 2016. The Saints are currently projected at $25 to $30 million over the cap.

Fantasy Tip: Brees once again should be a top-tier QB1 in 2015, especially with Brandin Cooks expected to return for a healthy season. Brees managed 4,952 yards and 33 touchdowns in 2014 in a "down" year for New Orleans.

Saints | Mark Ingram's status depends on cap

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 13:01:03 -0800

New Orleans Saints impending free-agent RB Mark Ingram's future with the team depends on Ingram's market value in free agency and the team's lack of salary-cap flexibility, according to general manager Mickey Loomis. Loomis didn't rule out re-signing Ingram if the two sides can agree on his value before March 10. Ingram rushed for a career-high 964 yards last season and will be one of the top free-agent running backs on the market.

Fantasy Tip: The Saints' first priority is getting under the salary cap before free agency starts, so it looks increasingly likely that Ingram will be on the open market. He'll be a welcome addition to any team, but his fantasy value is to be determined until his future is clearer. If he departs New Orleans, Khiry Robinson will be a hot target in fantasy drafts as an RB2.
