Saints | Drew Brees will not test market

Tue, 16 Jan 2018 13:24:08 -0800

New Orleans Saints impending free-agent QB Drew Brees said he does not plan to test the free-agent market. "I'll be [in New Orleans] as long as they'll have me, hopefully," Brees said.

Fantasy Tip: Brees' love and passion for the Saints and the city of New Orleans is well documented and well founded. Even at 39 years old, Brees is one of the most elite quarterbacks in the NFL. He remains a QB1 heading into 2018.

Saints | Coby Fleener a cut candidate

Tue, 16 Jan 2018 09:27:56 -0800

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener is set to count $8 million against the cap with a $6.3 million salary in 2018, making it highly unlikely he will stay with the team unless he agrees to a pay cut on the five-year, $36 million contract he signed in 2016. The Saints choose to release him, they would still be charged $4.8 million in dead money.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener was lost for the season due to injury after Week 12, but he had already long become an afterthought in the offense, as half of his 22 catches for the season came in the first four weeks. While New Orleans would be even more dynamic on offense if it had a field-stretching tight end, it's becoming pretty clear Fleener will not become that guy in Sean Payton's offense. He could be cut in March.

Saints | Drew Brees expects to be re-signed

Mon, 15 Jan 2018 22:08:00 -0800

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees said following the team's Divisional Round loss opposite the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, Jan. 14, that he expects the club to re-sign him. He believes the Saints are entering "a window of time here where we can really make a run at it" and expects to be part of that effort, adding that he is "excited for the future of Saints football."

Fantasy Tip: Brees is coming off yet another masterful campaign that saw him take back the NFL record for highest completion percentage in a single season (72 percent), en route to throwing for 4,334 yards, 23 touchdowns and only eight interceptions while leading the Saints to their first playoff berth in four years. There's no question the future Hall-of-Famer has something left in the tank, and thus, he'll remain one of the top QB1 options going into next year.

Saints | Ted Ginn shines with eight grabs

Sun, 14 Jan 2018 17:34:26 -0800

New Orleans Saints WR Ted Ginn Jr. racked up eight receptions for 72 yards on 11 targets in the NFC Divisional Round playoff game loss against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Jan. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Ginn had a productive season, posting 53 grabs for 787 yards and four touchdowns in the regular season. He hasn't lost anything in the speed department, either, even at 32 years of age. Ginn could head into 2018 as a decent complementary receiver to Michael Thomas, serving as a WR4 or flex fantasy option in seasonal play yet again.

Saints | Michael Thomas finds end zone twice

Sun, 14 Jan 2018 17:33:38 -0800

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas went for seven receptions, 85 yards and two touchdowns in the NFC Divisional Round playoff game loss against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Jan. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas shined in the stunning playoff loss, but the Saints came up just short on a Vikings touchdown on the final play of the game. He will be back in 2018 as a legitimate WR1 in all fantasy formats.

Saints | Mark Ingram totals just 28 yards

Sun, 14 Jan 2018 17:32:57 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram ran 10 times for just 25 yards in the NFC Divisional Round playoff game loss against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Jan. 14, and he added one grab for three yards on his only target.

Fantasy Tip: Ingram went out with a whimper in the team's stunning playoff loss. He had a nice season, but he had to share the load with Alvin Kamara, who quickly emerged as a star in the New Orleans backfield. As such, Ingram's fantasy outlook is a little bit murky going into 2018, as he is likely to split carries at best, and could be a reserve at worst.

Saints | Alvin Kamara bottled up on ground

Sun, 14 Jan 2018 17:32:20 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara rushed 11 times for 43 yards in the NFC Divisional Round playoff game loss against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Jan. 14. He did post four catches for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: Kamara was amazing in 2017, rising from third-round pick and understudy to Mark Ingram, to stud in all formats and potential first-round fantasy pick in 2018.

Saints | Drew Brees tosses three TDs

Sun, 14 Jan 2018 17:31:54 -0800

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees completed 25 of his 40 pass attempts for 294 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in the NFC Divisional Round playoff game loss against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Jan. 14.

Fantasy Tip: It was a crushing loss or Brees and the Saints, who went ahead in the final second only to be beaten on a crazy touchdown on the game's final play. Brees proved this season he still has plenty left in the tank and remains a QB1 in all fantasy formats heading into 2018.
