New England Patriots news, rumors and injuriesMon, 20 May 2013 15:39:59 -0700 New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm, back) plans to meet with a doctor in California in about three to four weeks to decide whether he will need to undergo back surgery. Share: Patriots | Doctors believe Rob Gronkowski's infection cleared Mon, 20 May 2013 14:35:10 -0700 New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm, back) underwent surgery Monday, May 20, to replace the plate in his forearm. The doctors believe the infection in his forearm has cleared. Fantasy Tip: It would be good news for Gronkowski if the infection is cleared because he would not have to undergo a fifth surgery on the forearm. There is a chance he will have to miss some time during training camp because of his recovery, but he could be ready for the start of the season if he does not need the fifth surgery. Gronkowski would be a No. 1 tight end if he is healthy, but owners should consider a strong No. 2 tight end in case Gronkowski has to miss time. Share: Patriots | Two UDFAs signed Mon, 20 May 2013 14:04:53 -0700 The New England Patriots have signed undrafted free-agent WR Mark Harrison (Rutgers) and PK David Ruffer (Notre Dame). Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Share: Patriots | Brandon Spikes will be at minicamp Mon, 20 May 2013 11:11:07 -0700 New England Patriots LB Brandon Spikes has not been participating in organized team activities but will be present for the team's minicamp. Spikes has been working out on his own and believes that is the best way for him to prepare for the season. His absence has nothing to do with his contract situation. Share: Patriots | More on Tom Brady Mon, 20 May 2013 09:45:13 -0700 Updating a previous report, New England Patriots QB Tom Brady started working with former major league pitcher and quarterback tutor Tom House this offseason, and Brady feels his mechanics are better than ever. "The same way Tom Martinez was always there to watch and give me corrections, Tom House has told me why certain corrections need to be made," Brady said. "Look at a baseball swing and a golf swing. It's all mechanics. Look at how Barry Bonds swings. Look at how Floyd Mayweather punches. Mechanics. When you've got to fit it into the tightest windows, mechanics are crucial." Fantasy Tip: Brady will be entering his age-36 season in 2013, but he still remains one of the more consistent and successful quarterbacks in the league. At some point, though, we'll see his numbers decline, and this year seems like a good bet for that, especially with Rob Gronkowski (forearm, back) and Aaron Hernandez (knee) banged up heading into the season. Aside from Danny Amendola, Brady doesn't have as many proven weapons in the passing game. Regardless, he'll go as a QB1 in most drafts. Share: Patriots | Tom Brady confident Mon, 20 May 2013 05:22:02 -0700 New England Patriots QB Tom Brady said he is more confident with his arm and throwing mechanics than ever before. Share: Patriots | Rob Gronkowski will undergo surgery Monday Sun, 19 May 2013 10:45:01 -0700 New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm, back) is scheduled to undergo surgery Monday, May 20, on his injured forearm. The doctors are expected to take cultures from his forearm to see if the infection is still there. If there is no infection, the plate in his forearm will be replaced and Gronkowski would start a 10- to 11-rehab process. The plate will not be replaced if there are still signs of an infection. Share: Patriots | May not pursue John Abraham Sun, 19 May 2013 10:25:25 -0700 The New England Patriots may not show interest in free-agent DE John Abraham (Falcons) if he is looking for a deal similar to the two-year, $8.75 million deal San Diego Chargers DE Dwight Freeney received. Share: Patriots | Brandon Spikes have not been present this offseason Sun, 19 May 2013 10:18:17 -0700 New England Patriots LB Brandon Spikes has not spent a lot of time with the team during their offseason program. It is not known if he will be present for organized team activities this week. Share: Patriots | Tavon Wilson working with Adrian Wilson Sat, 18 May 2013 11:32:41 -0700 New England Patriots SS Tavon Wilson said he has been working with SS Adrian Wilson this offseason in order to learn from the veteran. "He's been a great player in this league for a long time, and I'm glad we brought him over," Wilson. "I can learn a lot from Adrian, all the things he knows. I've been working closely with him so far and trying to soak up everything I can from him." Share: Patriots | Had interest in Dwight Freeney Sat, 18 May 2013 09:13:03 -0700 The New England Patriots expressed interest in San Diego Chargers DE Dwight Freeney but he decided to agree to a contract with the Chargers. Share: Patriots | Rob Gronkowski's back injury new Fri, 17 May 2013 15:15:08 -0700 New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski's (back) problem with a disc in his back is not related to the disc problem he had while in college in 2009. Gronkowski underwent a procedure to fix his back problem in college. It is not known when Gronkowski suffered his current injury. Share: Patriots | Tommy Kelly expected to have a big role Fri, 17 May 2013 14:26:46 -0700 New England Patriots DT Tommy Kelly is expected to receive a big role on defense this season. Kelly could play defensive tackle when the team uses a 4-3 defensive alignment and a defensive end in a 3-4 defensive alignment. Share: Patriots | Rob Gronkowski's back won't keep him out Fri, 17 May 2013 14:20:12 -0700 Updating an ongoing story, New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski's (back, forearm) "chronic" back problem, even if it does require surgery, won't keep him from participating in training camp, unless his forearm needs several more surgeries. Gronkowski's disc problem is different from the disc problem he dealt with in 2009, when he had the disc shaved down. However, his new disc problem dates back to last season. The star tight end was surrounded by rumors in 2010 that he dealt with spinal stenosis, or the narrowing of the spinal column that can lead to degenerative discs and joint pain. However, those rumors were quickly dismissed. Fantasy Tip: If Gronkowski's forearm injury allows him to return in time for training camp and Week 1, he may not be 100 percent healthy. However, if he's on the field and playing, fantasy owners will find it hard not to view him as a TE1. Temper your expectations early, though, and keep tabs on his recovery from these injuries this offseason. Share: Patriots | Rob Gronkowski probably will need surgery Fri, 17 May 2013 14:16:06 -0700 Updating previous reports, New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back, forearm) probably will need to undergo back surgery but is waiting for a second option at this point. His back surgery likely would occur three to four weeks after his upcoming forearm surgery. His back surgery would be delayed if Gronkowski needs two surgeries on his forearm. Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski's availability for the start of the regular season could come into question if he does undergo back surgery in the next few weeks. Owners that take Gronkowski in their drafts should look to take a strong No. 2 tight end in case he does miss some games. Share: ![]() |
