Patriots | LeGarrette Blount to have big role?

Tue, 27 Jan 2015 17:00:40 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount should be a factor in Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, Feb. 1, in the opinion of Boston Herald writer Karen Guregian. Despite Seattle's highly ranked run defense, they lost games earlier this season to both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys, who used run-heavy game plans. The Green Bay Packers also had early success on the ground against the Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game. The Packers opened up holes by overloading lanes with pulling linemen, which is something the Patriots like to do with their guards and tackles. If the Patriots stay away from the run, Seattle's linebackers will drop back in zone coverage, making it tougher on the Patriots' passing game.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots ran the ball just 14 times against the top-ranked run defense of the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round of the playoffs, but using Blount on the ground against Seattle should help open the passing game against the Seahawks’ tough secondary. The run game could also be used to exploit injured FS Earl Thomas (shoulder).

Patriots | Tom Brady said he feels perfect

Tue, 27 Jan 2015 16:13:32 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has publicly stated he'd like to play well into his 40s and feels perfect after playing his 15th season, but his father Tom Brady Sr. believes it won't end well with the Patriots. The younger Brady is under contract through 2017, although he'll turn 40 years old prior to that season. Brady has publicly said he plans on playing until he's 43 or 44. The 37-year-old quarterback is scheduled to make $12 million in 2015, $8 million in 2016 and $9 million in 2017. His father thinks his son's determination to keep playing won't go over well with the Patriots' brass. "It will end badly," Brady Sr. told New York Times Magazine. "It does end badly. And I know that because I know what Tommy wants to do. He wants to play 'til he's 70. ... It's a cold business. And for as much as you want it to be familial, it isn't."

Fantasy Tip: Even at 37, Brady didn’t show any signs of slowing down. While fantasy owners do assume some risk when drafting aging quarterbacks, Brady’s commitment to his well-being rule out some of that risk. He should be considered a midrange starting fantasy quarterback until he proves otherwise.

Patriots | Richard Sherman won't be avoided

Tue, 27 Jan 2015 12:08:04 -0800

Seattle Seahawks CB Richard Sherman won't be avoided by the New England Patriots during the Super Bowl, according to Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. "It's not an easy thing to avoid him the whole game. We're going to try not to do that with anybody… I think you need to be sensitive to him and where he's at."

Patriots | Josh McDaniels wants to be a head coach again

Tue, 27 Jan 2015 11:54:54 -0800

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said Tuesday, Jan. 27, that he'd love to be a head coach in the NFL again. McDaniels was rumored to be a possible candidate for the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers head coaching positions, but has not heard from either team. The 49ers have already named their new head coach in Jim Tomsula and the Falcons are expected to hire Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to fill that position.

Patriots | Seattle looking to shut down Gronk

Tue, 27 Jan 2015 09:17:13 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski is an offensive weapon that the Seattle Seahawks are focused on shutting down during the Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 1. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll thinks his team matches up well against the All-Pro tight end, though, as LBs K.J. Wright and Bruce Irvin are "pretty tall and long" and SS Kam Chancellor is "about as big a strong safety as you can find." The Seahawks will be focused on not allowing Gronkowski and QB Tom Brady to take over the game.

Fantasy Tip: Opposing tight ends have been a weakness for the Seahawks this year, so Gronkowski is basically a no-brainer play this weekend at FantasyScore for a salary of $7,777 (15.55% of cap).

Patriots | Long-term deal coming for Darrelle Revis?

Mon, 26 Jan 2015 16:55:43 -0800

New England Patriots CB Darrelle Revis is being paid $12 million this year, but the Patriots will reportedly try to sign him to a long-term extension this offseason. New England also hasn't ruled out picking up Revis' $20 million option for the 2015 season. If the team doesn't work out a deal with him, they have until late March to release him.

Patriots | Tom Brady clutch late in postseason

Mon, 26 Jan 2015 13:36:32 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has led eight playoff game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime in his career, more than any other player.

Fantasy Tip: Brady ($7,777, 15.55%) has seen his fair share of postseason success, but he's still a risky option going up against what was arguably the best pass defense in the NFL this season in the Seattle Seahawks. Russell Wilson might be a better option on FantasyScore at $4,444 (8.89% of cap).

Patriots | Tom Brady improved out of pocket

Sat, 24 Jan 2015 19:48:20 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady completed 12 of his 24 pass attempts on scramble plays outside of the pocket this year for 198 yards and two scores. Last year, he was 0-of-4 on similar plays.

Fantasy Tip: Brady's success on scrambling plays could come in handy in the Super Bowl against the Seahawks' tough defense. Fantasy owners should feel comfortable starting him over Russell Wilson ($4,444, 8.89% of cap) at FantasyScore.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell listed as questionable

Fri, 23 Jan 2015 14:57:25 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell (shoulder, toe) was limited in practice for the third straight day Friday, Jan. 23, and is questionable for the Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell ($4,444, 8.89% of cap) should be fine to play in the big game after another week of practice. Seattle poses a stiff test for LaFell and his deep threat, but a cheap price at FantasyScore next weekend makes the decision to start him not as scary.

Patriots | Tom Brady probable for Super Bowl

Fri, 23 Jan 2015 14:54:51 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (ankle) practiced in full for the third straight day Friday, Jan. 23, and is probable for the Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: Brady ($7,777, 15.55% of cap) is facing a tough Seahawks defense in the Super Bowl. However, after seeing what Aaron Rodgers was able to do against them last weekend on a hobbled leg, it's safe to say that Brady will remain a fine choice as your FantasyScore QB over Russell Wilson.
